Who is this man who is always praised loved, who was willing to risk his life to help others? First of all why would anyone risk their life for others, people they don’t even know? Regular people, most of us wouldn’t care about. Many people are only willing to care about themselves, their family, and maybe a few friends. Well Norman Bethune is not like most people.

A person who doesn’t just think of themselves and is willing to help others no matter what the cost is with no thought of repayment (not even a thank you), is a hero in my eyes. It is important because most people do nice things thinking that the person will help them and repay them in a way. Sometimes

Heroes put others before themselves and will do anything to ensure that thing’s safety. Many people have either risked their lives or have loss their lives due to trying to save others. An example of this would be the man in the red bandana or Welles Crowther. Crowther was working in the twin towers as planes were crashing into them. Crowther could have ran away from the other people when the planes hit, but he chose not to spare himself, but to save others and sacrifice his own life.
Jackson Scott is a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States National Guard, and has been serving for five and a half years. Jackson was born and raised in Greeneville, Tennessee. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and then transferred to East Tennessee State University in Johnson City Tennessee; where he received his degree in criminal justice. The school transfer was mostly because he wanted to be closer to his family and his now wife and my sister, Baylie Scott. Jackson went on to explain that he joined the military because he described it as his “sense of duty.”
Both sources provided basic details about former State Representative Raymond W. Ewell. However, I found the first source, History Makers to be undoubtedly creditable. This source included an exclusive glimpse into the life of the senator. The History Maker, website provides researchers with pertinent facts about Mr. Ewell life. Also, the information provided seem to have been solicited directly from Representative Ewell in the form of a one on one interview.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. You may ask what does that mean. Those three are the modern-day leaders in modes of transportation. In the 1800’s the ship was the leader in transportation of goods and people. At the peak of the market in the mid 1800’s, there was one business man the prevailed over others, Cornelius Vanderbilt.
What makes Chris McCandless a hero was his desire to be his true self. In order for Chris to find his true self, he embarked on a long journey to the wilderness of Alaska. Before he went off on the trip, he gave away his money to less fortunate to rid himself from the “impurities” of life. He said that “he would shortly donate all the money in his college fund to OXFAM America, a charity dedicated to fighting hunger” (Pg 20 Ch 2). His donation consisted of 24,000 dollars, which would help a various amount of people to live another day.

Beowulf & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A basic definition, of a hero is a person that puts others’ lives and safety first. Therefore, he’s defined by his acts and traits not by his looks or social status. He is well respected not only by the ones that he saves, but also by his community as a whole. Heroes come from everywhere around the world, with different capabilities, backgrounds and beliefs. Yet, they have a lot in common, most importantly standing up for the ones that cannot stand for themselves.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a hero as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts of fine qualities.”
Although Cao Cao makes a comment on what seems to be on a sensitive situation such as finance, he makes what he perceives to be a light-hearted comment. Readers come to understand that generosity is not a genuine character trait that comes out of Cao Cao regularly. “Cao Cao showed unusual generosity, giving him small banquets every third day, large ones every fifth.” (Luo, 82) This shows that generosity and kindness aren’t traits that others commonly associate with Cao Cao.
Anyone can be a hero. For instance, Robert Bentz was being selfless when he put himself between a driver of a stolen car and Bentz’ son. “In the split second of seeing the car coming straight at [his son] Roudy, Bentz cranked his steering wheel as hard as possible. That put him between the oncoming car and his son.” Though Bentz is a normal person, he was still able to save his son from injury.
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes dedicate their lives to contribute to the general welfare of society. Most of the time, the obstacle seems to big for them to handle, but they overcome it in the end. A hero can be anyone in the world.
Jim Withers is an example on how the perception of heroism has changed. Unlike the other two heroes, he is given the title based on what he did for others. As stated on CNN’s website by Kathleen Toner and contributing authors, Jim donated his time and abilities to the homeless by giving them medical care. Over time, his single handed efforts turned into a full scale operation called Operation Safety Net. He has been able to help over 10,000 homeless individuals.
In today’s society, heroes are always shown to be extraordinary people with superpowers in comic books or movies. They perform these grandiose acts of altruism and depict a flawless persona of strength and morale. Although that may be the case for some, a hero does not always need to show this invincibility. The best kinds of heroes are people who inspire others. A constant hero in my life has always been my piano teacher, Mrs. Kwasnik.
