Historians across the world have pondered over the idea of American exceptionalism. In Seymour Martin Lipset’s “American Exceptionalism: A Double-Edged Sword” and Ian Tyrrell’s “Is America Exceptional?” spoke of the debated topic of American exceptionalism. Exceptionalism is an idea in which a nation does not conform to the normal ways of life and history. Historians claim America is exceptional when comparing it to other nations. Lipset discusses America as a place that is exceptional but describes how being exceptional has both positive and negative effects.
I have interviewed Mariana Nishimura about what she thinks around the American exceptionalism. She is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The biggest city in Latin America, and the economical heart of the country. Mariana do not chose the TCNJ to study, the Brazilian government allocated her here; however she liked a lot the college so far. She liked the campus, the classes, and the new friends that she met.
Hello! I’m so sorry I haven’t written to you in a while.. I hope everything's going good in Great Britain. Anyways here in Boston Americans and Patriots are everywhere, some dead and some wounded.
A Veteran whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” I’m honored to be speaking with you today on such an important occasion. We’re here today to honor our service members and to remember their sacrifices they have made and the courage it take to defend honor, duty and the country. May we always be humbly grateful…. to the brave American patriots…who suffered and sacrificed for the freedom of all Americans.
Two young boys named Ponyboy Curtis, a 14 year old boy whose parents died and is taken care of his oldest brother, Dally Winston, a 17 year boy with experience at jail, and Johnny Cade, a 16 year old boy whose parents don’t care for him, saved a couple of children in a run down burning church. These boys are miracles, that risked their lives to save others. Yesterday, a fire was caused in a church trapping children. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally jumps through a burning window in search of the kids. The boys quickly find the kids and hand them out through the window to safety.
The bombing at pearl harbor was one of the worst days for America. People were astonished to witness Japan bombing us after America did nothing to hurt our peace agreement. So why did Japan attack us, that's what Franklin was trying to compose to congress through a speech. To help us understand the real impact of this bombing. One problem that affected American is the actual killing of Americans during this bombing.
I totally agreed with you. I too don't think Columbus Day should be a celebration of Columbus victory in discovering America. However, I do think we should keep the holiday and make it a day to grief for the lives lost from Columbus' violence and greed. I don't think Americans repay the Indians enough after putting them through such horror and genocide. Instead, we hurt them even more by naming a Holiday after their murder.
Americans have often believed that they were exceptional. American exceptionalism is the claim that Americans have “a moral purpose of acting altruistically in defense of freedom and democracy... with the aim of maintaining peace, of spreading justice or of defending human rights.” (New World Encyclopedia). They also believe that the United States must be a positive role model for the world.
Our flag is a sacred symbol of the United States its colors stand for what America believes in: Our country, our children, our military and loved ones, and our very lives. This symbol is a very important part of society and stands tall amongst the world and its many allies. Although America has one thing most countries don’t and that’s tolerance. As the land of the free we’ve became very tolerant to ideas such as Islamic laws and even immigration from other countries.
One day my family and I went to Great America. It was a sunny day and there was no wind, anyways I really wanted to go on a roller coaster, it would be my first time! I was really excited, I was 9 years old so it was a big deal to be tall enough to be able to ride a roller coaster. The roller coaster was named The Grizzly, I thought it was the best one to be my first, so my dad and I got in line. We were the first in line, and when we got in the roller coaster cart, we were in the first cart.
America, has given us our freedom. America has given us the ability to be a human. I can vote because of those who fought for our freedom. We are a free country; men, women, and children all have rights as a human being. We are all a nation, a country of diversity.
