The American Psychological Association (APA) started from a “brief journal article in 1929, the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association” (APA, 2010, pg. xiii). The reason it was created was to create a “simple set of procedures or style rules” that could be used for psychologists, social and behavior sciences (APA, 2010 pg. xiii). It offers perhaps the most varied of experiences, from the state in which people are in when they are not conscious to the representation of semi-consciousness to the full reality of the waken state. Cognitive neuroscience may be one of the most well-explored areas of human well-being, and yet there is still so much more to learn about the inner workings of arguably the most important organ in the body. Chapter 3 delves into the concept of consciousness and the two-track mind, in an attempt to explain everything from sleep issues to addiction to the hypnosis to the ways in which the brain processes just about everything. The brain is a highly complex organ that is responsible for everything from knowledge to personality and everything in between.

Nearly all articles had a amalgamating of genres, usually a current event with the evidence written as a scientific article would be. The writing style in all the articles analyzed was a combination of an expository style and a persuasive style. Burdick’s articles have the perfect balance of an informative article with a hint of persuasion.

A psychological analysis is a year: it is made up of many different aspects of a person’s life, which can be boiled down into months of decision making, weeks of thoughts, days of feelings, hours of incentives, then pulled apart to reveal how a person becomes the way that they are. A psychiatrist is a person who has dedicated their life to studying the brain and its inner workings. They understand how difficult it is to summarize their findings. Yet the brief reply he was required to give was a second. It was short, it was abrupt, and it was over in the blink of an eye.
