In 1928 the Kellogg- briand pact was signed involving Great Britain the united states japan italy and germany. The events leading to the attack of pearl harbor affected the economy in a positive and negative way depending on who you were. They were affected in this way do to the lend and lease act, EU2 Visuals and japan Attacking Pearl Harbor. The lend and lease act gave the united states the opportunity to lend things to other countries with a fee for they knew they would get it back.
In 1939 the US put an embargo on the trade of aircraft and aircraft parts being exported to Japan(Doc C). The US put this embargo on Japan a little after the Japanese had declared their “new order” policy. By establishing the embargo the US was getting involved in the war efforts against Japan. This meant that they were getting in the way of Japan's effort to create a purely Japanese empire in East Asia. With this embargo, Japan realized that they had made a new enemy.
December 7, 1941 is considered one of the most impactful days in United States’ history: the day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Despite their size, Japan left an incredible amount of damage with their 5 submarines and 408 planes. President Roosevelt had been avoiding scuffling with Japan since their pact with Germany and Italy; war with Germany was sure to erupt soon enough. However, soon after the ambuscade, the United States’ declared war on Japan and launched their involvement in World War II. Japan’s leaders recognized the risks of invading one of America’s naval bases; yet they persisted.
America's oil was keeping Japan's fire alive. Japan was getting 80% of their oil from America (Doc. D). Japan needed oil. Japan new they needed oil and oil was near if only they could take over that country. America was blocking the countries with oil that Japan had a chance of overtaking.
On the morning of December 7, 1941, two explosions occurred on Hawaii’s Oahu island’s Pearl Harbor. The bombs were set one hour apart, one located in the sea and one dropped from the air. By the end of the attack, many American planes, military crafts and two battle ships had been destroyed. The death toll was over 2,300. The attacks were from Japan, which at the time was a fascist country looking to expand their nation.
Japan attacked the US at 8:00 a.m. on December 7, 1941 because of the embargo, fear of the US Navy expansion, and Japan wanting expansion made the Japanese people afraid of the US and caused them to react. Documents today state facts of why these are the reasons that mainly caused Japan to attack Hawaii. Pearl Harbor was a US Naval Base and was the closest and easiest way to get close to the the states. In the first day that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor, more than 2,000 US soldiers and sailors had died and 1,000 were wounded. After the end of the first day President Franklin Roosevelt had talked to Congress and asked to declare war on Japan and 10 Naval Battleships had been sunk.
In the chronology adapted from Akira Iriye, Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War mentions many times in which the U.S. made it very uncomfortable for Japan. These uncomforts stem from Japan feeling threatened as well as the U.S. cutting them off of certain products that are necessary for Japan. In 1939 the U.S. placed an embargo (or stopped the trade) of aircraft and aircraft parts (Doc C). This makes things difficult for Japan because Japan is an island and their only real mode of transportation for troops or other goods was airplane or ship. In fact according to Wiki, the Japanese alone built over 3,000 transport airplanes because of U.S. parts and taking that away had a huge impact on their mobility.

Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, out of nowhere, but some could see it coming. Pearl Harbor is an American naval base and airfield located in Hawaii. On December 7, 1941, it was attacked by Japan so fast that most people at the base were dead in just 2 hours. Today it is known as one of the greatest defeats in US history. But, what caused Japan to attack Pearl Harbor?
But, what exactly cause this long tension affair between Japan and America to be remembered as an American tragedy. As President Roosevelt stated, “a date in which will live infamy.”
The following damages left a scar on America and caused many nations to come together and fight. Many Americans and weapons were destroyed, damaged, and wounded through this attack. The total number of aircrafts that were destroyed or damaged was approximately 350. Roughly 200 aircrafts were destroyed and about 150 planes were damaged, but salvageable (“Pearl Harbor” International). There were 21 ships that were sunk, intensely damaged, or beached (“Pearl Harbor” International).
The attack happened on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the attack happened in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. The attack was 2 hours in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, there were exactly 21 ships in the U.S. Pacific fleet that had been sunk or severely damaged. There were exactly 188 United States aircrafts that were destroyed and exactly 159 that were damaged. That would make a total amount of 2,403 innocent people that were killed, the majority were the soldiers and sailors. When Japan sent their planes to attack the United States Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, they desired to make themselves look strong, but it made a lot of people think that they are heartless and ruthless.
The attack killed 2,400 americans. Navy battleships were destroyed/damaged. More than 200 planes were damaged .
The Japanese used many aircraft carriers to launch somewhere around two-hundred airplanes to use torpedoes, dive bomb, or kamikaze, and to shoot anything else in their path, which did include other airplanes and ships that were trying to stop them. The Americans used their rifles which could have been a Springfield or an M-1 Garand, anti-aircraft guns that were mounted on the boats, and machine guns, which was also mounted to the sides of ships. While in the defense of Pearl Harbor, the U.S. was able to take down around thirty or so Japanese aircraft. Nearly seventy to eighty planes were damaged during the attack, and the Japanese even lost some of their submarines and submariners.
Despite America supporting the Chinese during this war they unintentionally continued to provide Japan with resources such as steel and iron up until 1940 when President Franklin Roosevelt cut off all shipments and later took away Japan’s access to the US oil supply in 1941. Historian David M. Kennedy, PhD, summarized it perfectly, “Each [nation] stepped through a series of escalating moves that provoked but failed to restrain the other, all while lifting the level of confrontation to ever-riskier
