You would see some other medals and trophies around it, but to me it is the only one I see. This trophy means so much to me because it represents me and who I am as a person. It represents that I am dedicated because I played the sport for ten years. Also, it represents the enthusiasm from that specific tournament that we came in second it. It represents the over 1,000 games I have probably played.
Over the past ten years, it has always been work, work, work, or more recently it has been school, school, school. In this flawless focus method I have been able to keep a GPA of 3.9 and save a decent amount of money. This flawless focus method does come with a price. The price of this method was broken relationship with friends and family, as well as with my daughter.
I feel that I was triumphant in my first year of college with the help of believing that there have been many people that have graduated college, so why can I not do this. Additionally, having a great support system back home and at Chico helped greatly in the transition to the new environment of Chico State. Also, learning from my mistakes in high school of not getting the best grades because of lack of effort helped me become a strong student academically at Chico State in my first two semesters, due to not wanting to repeat the past. My last example of success in my life is being more outgoing and being able to hold a conversation with I person I just met a few minutes. When I was younger I was very shy and could not even look people in the eye when I was talking to them.
I am forever grateful to have won the healthier living scholarship. The scholarship has greatly motivated me to move ahead and become closer to my goal of healthier living and that of motivating others to adopt the same healthy lifestyle. As of now, I have had substantial progress and achievements. For instance, I started the program June 3, 2016, at 342 pounds, and I am down to 259 pounds as of today. My A1 C is now 5.3 non-diabetic range.
“And the winners of the Tuttle Middle School American Legion Awards for 2011 are Alyssa Yund and Justin Raters” announced the assistant principal at the time, Rex Ryker, in a congratulatory tone. I have never been more grateful and proud of an accomplishment in my life until this one. Scoring high on exams, making the high honor roll, and earning awards for my academics over the years have been satisfactory accomplishments on my behalf, but earning this award seemed the most important accomplishment to me. This accomplishment marked a significant transition between my childhood and adulthood within my culture. Most importantly, this award taught me life lessons that have shaped me into the individual that I am today and that will endure with me eternally.
His face was rosy from the sun, and his face was complemented with a smile from ear to ear. He said to me, “Congratulations you beat your time by 25 seconds and qualified for sections.” I was overjoyed, and now I had a smile of my own from one ear to the other, and I was glad my hard work paid off. I had been training every day for the past 10 months to do what I did, win at league champs. Finally, I saw my family waiting for me, so I walked over to my family feeling proud of my accomplishment.

For the last two years of my academic career at Kansas State University, I have been privileged and honored to receive the O’Brate Scholarship which has indubitably been a pivotal factor in making my college years both positive and successful. The financial security, network of support, and outreach the O’Brate Scholarship bestows unto its recipients such as myself, allows to direct more attention and effort into studies and other academic endeavors in addition to other college experiences which would otherwise would be limited. Furthermore, by budgeting my money on a month to month basis, I have become a more conscious and savvy consumer. Knowing where the money comes in from and where it goes helps maximize the potential of every dollar.

The Pillars of National Honor Society have influenced my life even before I recognized what they were. For Scholarship, I have spent the past four years dedicating my attention to my studies. I’ve spent hours after school studying particular tests. Matter of fact, I spent my seventeenth birthday taking a mock exam for my Calculus test. I’ve always kept my goal of succeeding in mind and worked hard to make my family proud.
Throughout my four years of high school, I have kept myself occupied by participating in three student organizations that has developed me into a helpful and prestigious individual. My participation in the Alexander High School UIL Academic team taught me the lesson of hard work pays off. I took the opportunity to join my high school's UIL current events and social studies team which allowed me to compete against others based on my knowledge of the topic. By competing, UIL has educated me that in order to succeed, you must be willing to make sacrifices and dedicate your time towards studying in order to earn a medal or a ribbon. Thankfully, I got to place in many invitational events.
