The Canadian government also inappropriately dealt with Aboriginal social justice issues, as seen through the land claims like the Oka Crisis and the Ipperwash. The Oka Crisis was a 78-day standoff, beginning on July 11th, 1990 between Mohawk protesters, police, and army. The crisis began when the proposed expansion of an 18 hole golf course and development of 60 luxury condominiums on disputed land included a Mohawk burial ground. The Mohawks were infuriated, as the Euro-Canadians proposed the use of land that belonged to them was to be used for a luxury of their own, leading them to erect a barricade to Oka. The Police wouldn’t tolerate the actions of the Mohawks, and intervened 3 months later, attempting to cease the barricade.
Another layer of white supremacy was in the courts as Assata was being charged for bank robbery and kidnapping, which seem to be a stage theater to give the illusion of a fair trial when in fact it was just another tool to continue to subjugate African American. The bank robbery case was suspicious when the F.B.I. started to fingerprint and took photographs of Assata in the same clothing as the bank robbers and at the same angle. However, what got the case, postpone was the judge and his inability to contain his prejudice saying that he thought Assata was guilty and when the case resumed still were not able to get a conviction. The other case of the kidnapping of the drug dealer (James freeman), which quickly fell apart when Freeman testify and was asked if he was being coerce to frame Assata, he

The social impacts that this tribe has faced should not have occurred and through the reclamation of the mine site, the government of Canada will try to restore
Personally, I grew up with no running water. Imagine a 8 or 9 year old hauling water with your siblings, parents or a grandparent just to get ready for the day. Than the water is used for drinking, bathing, and kitchen needs. That is normal living and many still live like that on the reservation. So fracking and other negative externalities, such as, fracking contaminates nearby homes and affect families and their only resource of

The current state of the automotive industry is one of shrinking margins, changing consumer expectations and demands, as well as pressure from the government to increase fuel efficiency. There is increased competition in the American market as foreign companies challenge the “Big Two” automotive manufacturers. Costs increase while the price for their products has remained stagnant. One way that manufacturers have managed to stay profitable is actively working to decrease costs while needing to keep the selling price the same in order to be competitive. The most successful ones have changed their relationships with suppliers to a partnership between the two companies.
“There’s lots of traditional thinking buried deep within each story and the longer you spend thinking about it the more you learn about yourself, your people and the Indian way” (Wagamese, 1994, p.145). Reuniting with his family, discovering his heritage, connecting with community members, and learning the traditional teachings and practices have greatly impacted his sense of self, identity, and values toward community. It was foundational to his self-discovery and community connection that he had several people like his sister who were willing to share the family history and their ties to the community. To understand the nature, processes and experience of sense of community at any one time for a particular community it is necessary to have some appreciation of the community’s history (Pretty, 2006). Working closely with Keeper and reconciling the negative feelings his mother had toward losing him has likely helped solidify an aspect of community wherein members matter to one another and that their needs will be met by staying
However, it can also be life-taking, as shown by Anna May's son's death. Stop Taking Clean Water for Granted Can you stop for a moment and think what would happen if we didn’t have water; clean water? It seems impossible, as we use water to drink, cook, clean, grow things, and for everything else in life. Unfortunately, because of the easy access to one of the most plentiful, and most valuable resources in the world, some people take water for granted. In contrast, other poor people live in places where the only easy way to get water is from a dirty irrigation ditch. Or their only source of water is backyard faucet shared by several homes.

IDENTIFY AND RESEARCH A TOURISM ATTRACTION Introduction Tourism has experienced continued growth and extensive diversification and competition on the last decades, becoming one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world and by consequence, one of the main income sources for many developing countries. “Every time we travel we are part of a global movement that has the power to drive inclusive development, to create jobs and to build the sustainable societies we want for our future,” says the actual UNWTO¹ Secretary General, Taleb Rifai. “This movement also contributes to build mutual understanding and to safeguard our shared natural and cultural heritage,” he completes. A sustainable and responsible approach to tourism means that neither the natural environment nor the socio-cultural organisation of the host communities would be compromised by the arrival of tourists.
