The book Amy Carmichael Rescuer of Precious Gems , is about the ups and downs of missionary life for Amy Carmichael, who missioned to India. Amy dedicated her life to helping Adults and childern of Japan and India find christ. She gave up having a husband and children of her own to give young girls and boys in India a home. The life of Amy Carmichaelwas very inspiring, but she faced many hardships wherever she lived. She lived in many places: Ireland, England, Japan, and India. In the slums of Ireland she found a group of women called the shawlies; they were out cast factory workers. Amy saw an ad for a tin tabernacel that she could build as a worship space for the shawlies. The only problem was that it was too expensive and they had nowhere to put it. So she prayed and God provided the money, a girl named Kate Mitchell gave Amy the money for the tin tabernacle. After Amy built the tin tabernacle her mom and Amy moved to England. There she moved to the slum but she had to move back into the city because of her health. When Amy was living with a man named Robert Wilson Amy felt what she called “the call” to be a missionary to China but was not exepted because of her health. Amy’s travels to Japan were very difficult. She had to say goodbye to Robert Wilson who was like a father figure to her. So she was so sad that she had to say goodbye. Once the ship was close to the port of Japan, the ship could not come any closer because the ship was trapped in a typoon. So people that were inland came up to the ship in a tugboat and the ship droped the passengers onto the tugboat , and it took the passengers to shore. Another trial Amy faced in Japan was the culture. The people of Japan were mezmerized by the clothes Amy wore, they were different from what they were used to. Once Amy and her interpreter, Misaki San, were trying to share the gospel with an older woman but the woman seemed distracted. It was Amy’s clothes the woman took off of Amy's glove and studied it. Amy and Miaki San could not get the women to focus on the gospel message any more. After that Amy got very sick, and the doctor told her she needed to get out of Japan and go to a different climate. So Amy decided to go to China as she originally planned but the missionary hospiatol was already full. So Amy changed course and went to Colombo Ceylon. Amilia’s adventure Amilia Earheart was from Kansas. She was the first child of three. As she grew up her dad had a drinking problem so Amilia and her family moved to Chicago. Then in 1917 she went to visit her sister in Canada and came across injured soldiers. So Amilia went back to school to become a nurse.

The passage Ruby Bridges: Girl of Courage is extremely interesting and shows how she fought for her rights without stopping. To begin with, Ruby Bridges was the first black student to go to a desegregated school. The six year old girl had to be accompanied by U.S. Marshals because the parents of the children that attended the school were furious. The young girl was very brave to do such a thing. One of the Marshals named Charles Burks said that she never cried, whimpered, but was brave and walked just like a solider.

Her Aunt and uncle took her in. At that point she went to high school for 1 semester but left because she couldn't handle the stress. After trying high school she got a job offer as a receptionist. Soon after that she got a degree as a certified medical assistant. She then got married to Robert Brown, and had a daughter and son.
Now that they had five children she felt like it was best for them to move to the city for more opportunity for the whole family. They then moved to Boston a large city where she can then focus on her career again on reading and writing letters. Susan Anthony was born and raised in Adams Massachusetts with quaker being her known religion(susan house). At an early age she was introduced to activist tradition which she supported, also she gained a sense of justice and had strong moral early on(susan house). Her family, with the other 7 siblings she had, moved to New York in 1826, and it was there that she started a teaching career where she taught for 15 years(biography).
With so many families in the city it was hard to find an affordable place with the low hourly wages they were making. With this one woman sought out to help these homeless mothers, and children. Jane Addams thought education and opportunity would help these people excel in life. One of the ways she provided education was that she actually started a kindergarten for some of the women’s’ children to gain some basic education. She continued educating them by giving the kids books and making them become self taught but still guided them with volunteer teachers and herself a tutor with her partner.
