Known as one of the most renowned writers of all time, Shakespeare told the universal truth. Emotions are not something that changes over any amount of time. Some emotions like love, hate, revenge, and envy, are key players in most of Shakespeare's plays. Romeo and Juliet was such a successful play that many other movies have imitated the plot such as the very successful "West Side Story". Even though 400 years has past and the world has changed drastically, the emotions and feelings in the play Romeo and Juliet have withstood the test of time.

Throughout history it has influenced almost every other aspect of life including wars, marriages, sporting and entertainment events, as well as daily life and activities. There is no denying that it is important. Religion in ancient times was no different than modern day.
It is quite hard to imagine, but human civilizations along with the development of human culture already exist for thousands of years. Many things have changed with the course of time and many civilizations simply died out, leaving after themselves numerous open questions and riddles for historians and anthropologists. One of the most interesting ancient civilizations with outstanding culture was Egypt. Among all its cultural peculiarities the idea of woman and her role in society seems to resemble the modern one in many aspects. The life of Egyptians was closely connected with their gods and cults of them.
Like wise, the Odyssey was also very popular in it’s time. During the reading of both tales, it can be seen that both of the stories share many similarities. An the main similarity that they both share is that both main characters pose to be epic heros. Even thoguh they come from two different time periods and express differences, they also express commanalities within themselves as characters. Gilgamesh, from the tale of Gilgamesh, was the king of Uruk, on the river Euphrates in modern Iraq.

There are multiple references to mythological gods and goddesses that appear in a man’s person’s daily life. It was believed that the mighty gods descended down from Mount Olympus to help a believer’s tasks. Prayers to the gods could be used to get a crew or companion home safely. For example, Odysseus had a voyage that lasted for a long time, and many thought he had passed.

Everybody likes rooting for a hero. And throughout the evolution of storytelling, from stories written in stone to those in tablets, heroes have always played a huge role in the stories we tell. As literature evolved, and more legends and tales began to appear in different cultures, the idea of a traditional epic hero was established. Stories like "The Epic of Gilgamesh," and "The Odyssey," set the mold for this type of heroes, an influence that can clearly be seen when analyzing literature. In fact, most of these characters, regardless of the time and place they were created in, shared similar characteristics to the two kings.
Throughout our history the belief in a higher being has been a common practice. There have been many versions of these beliefs and it is understandable why. When a person believes in a superior force it helps them be motivated. In Homer’s The Odyssey you see humans blaming their problems and crediting their success to the gods. Throughout The Odyssey there are instances where it was beneficial for Odysseus and others to believe in gods and goddesses to explain the unexplainable and guide them through life’s journey.

The inspiration and cultural influence from the Greeks and Romans have lived on for many centuries. The Greeks and the Romans had religious beliefs of the afterlife. They both believed in the afterlife and that everyone has a spirit.
