A gap year was once just a privilege for the people of luxury and wealthy backgrounds, who’s mummy and daddy would send them off for the time of their lives. They would travel to poor countries and help build houses and schools for the ones in need for a few weeks. Then spend the rest of the year going to beaches and parties. It isn’t a bad thing, but now people might not have the qualifications if they ever wanted to get another job. It is also very hard to get back into that routine and structure if they do end up wanting to go to university or college so they might struggle a lot more than the average person. However, taking a year off to travel or do volunteering and work experience is an amazing thing to have as it will make the person stand out against anyone else as they will have more skills like teamwork, a new language, confidence and so much more knowledge in cultures. People will meet so many new people who you might be friends with from years on from now. Taking a gap year before people go off into future education is a great way to earn money and decide what they may want to do in the future if they do not know
