The country has a lot of issues, whether it be political, racial or immigration problems. However, I think that the biggest problem in the country is poverty. Many people, and their families live in poverty and gets little to no help, whatsoever. They don’t get paid much to help and feed themselves or their families. As averaged from 2013 to 2015, California had America's 17th-highest poverty rate, 15 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. I’m glad that I’m lucky enough to have a family that works to have a meal in the table three times a day, but I also think about how others aren’t the “lucky ones.” I want to open up a food bank as my business to help contribute the poverty level in California, which is perfect because California is …show more content…
If children live in poverty or can’t obtain any food to eat, their future will have major consequences to come. “Poverty can affect every aspect of a child’s development, limiting their social, educational and personal development” (http://www.gateshead.gov.uk). They can’t focus in the work, suffer through poor health, less likely to have a good jobs as adults, more likely to leave school before high school graduation, and less likely to have major opportunities. They are more likely to stay at home, working to try and help their families without having an opportunity await them. Crime is also a negative effect to people that goes through poverty. “Teenagers living in a family where the head of the household was unemployed were also more likely to participate in criminal behavior. Even poor individuals with ‘low risk’ backgrounds were more likely to engage in violence. This means that for certain types of young people, living in a poor household increases their risk of engaging in violence beyond what one would expect” (https://borgenproject.org). If crime goes up thanks to poverty, it would be a much bigger issue to not the community, but the nation. Crime was already a big problem, imagine if it went …show more content…
The people who are commonly in poverty are usually young and new families. They have a rough start and will have trouble getting three meals a day for them, which is where our food bank will have them over. The most common races in Oakland, California are African Americans and Latinos, and because of their backgrounds, my food bank will help them out massively. Also, immigrants who come into this country have trouble adjusting to the country. Resources would be tough because of their illegal status. The food bank will help them worry less about
In the United States both governmental and private, non-profit organizations work around the clock to alleviate the devastating outcomes of food deficiency in some of the poor families and individuals by offering food pantries, food stamps, and cash
Rank explains, “households in poverty can be found throughout a variety of unban and suburb landscapes, as well as in small towns and communities across rural America,” (Rank 2 of 3). One may conclude that many destitute families are confined to certain places, which divide them between the rest of the population. This creates barrier that prevents these families from improving their living conditions. There are many small regions where poverty is common. “South Carolina’s poverty rate is ninth highest in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey.” It is a circumstance in which most South Carolinians’ live, and many of them not by choice. Thus, what does poverty look like? Poverty is working hard and yet still struggling to make ends meet. Poverty is working a full time, year-round minimum-wage job, but many South Carolinians are unable to feed, house, clothe, and educate their children.
Millions of people all over the world suffer from poverty. Americans usually think of third world countries when thinking of poverty, often one will not realize that it is a problem right here at home. Everyone will agree that poverty is a problem, but how exactly does poverty affect people? Most people will think of an old beggar on the side of the road with a sign and a tin can in their hand when they think of poor people. But the age group that is most affected by poverty in our nation is our children.
Nearly half of America’s food goes to waste every year. “Poverty” in America greater resembles deprivation rather than "poverty" from a global context. According to Mr. Smith (2015) he defined poverty as, “People and families are considered poor when they lack the economic resources necessary to experience a minimally-sufficient standard of living.” This suggests destitution is more of serious deprivation which is the denial of something “you” may consider to be a necessity such as “internet deprivation” rather poverty. It mainly focuses on the inability to provide food (nutritious food), clothing, and shelter; which can also be classified under poverty, but somehow they shift majority of our focus point to homelessness, unable to eat properly or the type of food you would like to eat, as often as you should and not only fulfilling your basic needs but to fulfill it to “your
Poverty in America is a difficult topic to speak on; everyone has their own views and experiences on poverty. Certain social trends have impacted the society such as Family Dynamics; The way families are now are a lot different than families of the 1950’s-1960’s, In many cases both adult members of the family are working instead of the traditional husband working to support the family. Even with both members working full time it is still hard to support an average family due to working class wages not adjusting to inflation. Poverty has been increasing at a dramatic rate and the government is supporting more and more people with perverse incentives.
Poverty can be a vicious cycle for some families that goes from generation to generation. Another personal issue that can lead to poverty is illness and unemployment which puts someone out of work and there is little to no income coming in. Along with these personal issues that I stated there are also many
The Effects of Growing up in Poverty Poverty is not a new phenomenon we are dealing with. It has been an issue from the foretime till now. Poverty gradually has continued and changed its form in a different manner that has created many problems for the new generations, for example, in the old days poverty implicated to lack land and food, but nowadays, poverty means lack of education, lack of food and water, lack of money and much more. The main cause of poverty is a lack of money or income which has created a very critical situation in local and international society. These critical situations are child labor, hunger, health problems and much more that we are dealing with nowadays.
The children of our nation are the future; however, America’s children are suffering. Child poverty, hunger and nutrition, and welfare are growing issues that need to be solved. The statistics provided in The State of America’s Children 2017 Report are eye-opening. Sadly, poverty is threatening America’s children. According to the State of America’s Children in the United States and Alabama 2017 Factsheets, 18 percent of the U.S.’s children were poor in 2016, and 25 percent of Alabama’s children were poor in 2016.

Inefficient policies all around the world and especially in our country are contributing to problems in the society. And the biggest problem which the world faces today is the problem of “Poverty” and “Inequality”. It is hard for one to determine whether poverty causes inequality or is it the other way around because both these problems are interrelated. Poverty is something which is caused due to transferring wealth in to the hands of a specific group and the unjust policies of the government. And inequality is discriminating a person in all spheres of life which gives a rise to sense of deprivation.
