Child abuse is a global yet complicated problem that happens in families. It is a state of emotional, physical, economic and sexual maltreatment assigned to adolescents who are under eighteen years old and is global occurrence phenomenon. According to Children Young Persons and their Families Act, child abuse is defined as harming, ill-treatment and neglect of any child or adolescent and resulting harm to a child’s health, development in the context of a relationship or responsibility and trust. Nowadays, we always read and hear a lot of news about child abuse happening in our world. In fact, the number of child abuse increases since days gone by. The people we knew have a higher chance to be the abusers compare to strangers. For example, abusers can either from our family or others that are close to us. The most important is not every abused child grown up to be an abuser. There are some survivors of child abuse who have a strong personality which draws them to protect their children against domestic violence.
First of all, let’s start with emotional abuse. Emotional abuse underlies the ongoing emotional maltreatment or emotional neglect of a child. It is the most common form of child abuse but also the most difficult for the social workers or other professionals to observe or diagnose. Many parents are emotionally abusive without being violent or sexually abusive. However, their parenting style may be portrayed by over aggressive towards their beloved children, include shouting, intimidation, or manipulating their children with more exquisite mean, such as emotional blackmail.
Emotional abuse does not only occur in the house. Children can be emotionally abuse by their teachers of other adults in a position of power over the child. In addition, children can also be emotionally abused by other children who is in the same age or slightly older in the form of bullying.
