Citizen Journalism
Citizen journalism is when the general public does what private reporters do, they spread and report information. They do this via various mediums, in person, social media, internet, etc, social media and the internet being the main mediums for citizen journalism. It happens in numerous forms such as photos, videos, text, podcasts (audio) and many more. Citizen journalism has transformed the way people receive news, the developments in social media and its easy accessibility being its main cause.
Of the people, for the people, by the people; this quote by Abraham Lincoln fits the idea of citizen journalism perfectly. Due to the easy accessibility of social media and the Internet, via smartphones. Smartphones sales have

We have entered a hugely multi-direct environment in which 'keeping the doors' to spare clients from the surge of data is no more conceivable. (Bruns 2006)
Citizen journalism makes sure to report events or incidences that the mainstream media may otherwise fail to report, especially in remote areas or cities where it is nearly impossible for news team access. The practice of citizen journalism also saves money by implementing the views of unpaid journalists who indirectly become volunteers for adding to actual news reports. Citizen journalism has also strived to provide what real journalism hasn’t been able to provide, coverage of society which leads to building a sense of society. (Kelly

Network monitoring now is limited because of the number of servers it takes to deal with the large influx of router data. Router manufacturers have been attempting to combat this by adding counters to the routers that report on the number of data packets a router has processed during some time interval, but adding counters for every special task would be impractical and put more stress on servers since they would need thousands more to process the flood of data coming in. To combat this a system called Marple was created by researchers at MIT, Cisco Systems, and Barefoot Networks(Hardesty). Marple involves a programming language the allows network operators to specify a wide range of network-monitoring tasks and a small set of simple circuit elements that can execute any function specified in the language.
After writing the Constitution at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, the journey to ratification began; however, not all states were eager to ratify it due to fear of a strong central government. In order to better convince each state to ratify the Constitution in place of the Articles of Confederation, the Bill of Rights was added as a barrier against the tyranny of a strong central government. The First Amendment includes protection of many civil liberties including freedom of speech, assembly, petition, religion, and the press. The Founding Fathers included the right of freedom of the press so as to ensure the spread of intellectual, and typically liberal, ideas among the citizens, just as was done in order to inspire the revolution.
Katie Couric, a well known American journalist once said, “They like being able to turn on the television day in and day out to see someone that they know and they feel comfortable with and trust hopefully and respect even.” (“Katie Couric Quote”) Essentially, a television journalist welcomes themselves into homes all over the world everyday and it is up to the resident to put their whole trust in them. Telling people the news can be difficult, but it is also an experience that the journalist and the viewers experience together. It is the trust of that journalist that creates viewership and the urges to turn to certain channels when gathering news.
Whether it’s just trying to get the information out there or trying to prevent these situations, news reporters make society uneasy because of the information they are putting out into the world
Society expect to be constantly entertained; they have become so concerned with things such as who the latest star is dating, scandals, or dumb people doing rather idiotic things. Much of society have been consumed in their personal instant gratification and what makes them “happy”. When on an off chance that news does show things that are serious and impactful(not necessarily positive things that is happening in the world) people have become so numb that the best they could do is feel sympathetic and at worst continue on with their day. The other part of the problem is that those behind what is being published and shown on the news media have been absorbed in their avarice nature, whatever allows them to make as much profit they do. “Writing thousands of hours of coverage from what could have been summarized in a couple of minutes every few weeks, a new rhetorical strategy was developed, or-let’s be generous-evolved”(6), Saunders describes the new formula formed by mass news firms that would yield the most profit.
The Cease of Journalism in the Digital Age Waking up on a Sunday morning, enjoying a freshly brewed mug of coffee, relaxing at home reading the newspaper… to most Americans, this would seem like an ideal leisurely weekend. This has been a social norm for almost a century up until only recently. Now, we find ourselves lazily staying in bed catching up on social media, text messages, and the occasional news blurb located conveniently within our smartphones. Because of this conveniency, technology has had a considerable negative impact on traditional journalism during the last decade.
The drastic increase in social media has also had a tremendous impact on the media’s impact, as it makes this technology more and more
The public opinion strongly affects the main stream news sources who work very hard for their stories. With the wide use of social media rather than the main stream sources of news the result may be a loss of jobs for the people in this career. People are getting rid of traditional news and going to social media because it is hands on and convenient. However older people still depend mainly on television and newspapers for their news.
Public trust in the media has been declining continuously over the past five years. In a Gallup study, it was reported that, “Americans' trust and confidence in the mass media "to report the news fully, accurately and fairly" has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with 32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media” (Swift). This type of mistrust is because of the bias in the new forms of media today. Bias may have been easier to keep in check when there were fewer news sources. However, with the ease of access to the internet and the rise of citizen journalists and fake news sites, the public is finding more and more stories they most see shared are false.
The Use of Social Networking Nowadays, we are living under decent technology and it has changed a lot of things: Entertainment, communication, and relationship; economy, education, and habit; medical, political and cultural etc. Social media has allowed us to interact with many more people other than we are used to before. We are living in a world where people would rather use text message with their mobile phone than face-to-face to each other, share greeting with more than hundreds of friends on the social media such as upload how they feel on Facebook, show photo Instagram, and what they are doing with Snapchat.
How did social media become so popular in so little time? I hope to find the answer to these questions. I want to know what social media has done for society and if we actually need social media. There have been many milestones in the social media, which means there will be many more to come. What will happen next?
A. The spread of Information Technology has been rapid in recent years. The most dramatic change is Internet and social networking. An research at Chicago University in which they recorded the cravings of several hundred people concluded that social media addiction are stronger than addiction to cigarettes and booze . B. Today, we are more dependent on Internet especially social networking such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and so on.
