A sacred space is defined as a location that has been designated by a group as worthy of devotion or loyalty. A sacred space can be a cemetery, monument, or any type of location that represents a connection to an object of devotion. These sacred spaces link people of the present and future to the past and help them to remember something or someone that deserves their devotion, loyalty, and respect. A sacred space can be represented by a famous battle, building, location where a historical event occurred, or even a famous person who did something for their community. Selena began her singing career as part of her father’s band, Los Dinos, when she was young and only continued to grow in popularity as she grew up. What made Selena so interesting was the fact that even though she spoke English as her native tongue, her music was in Spanish. At first many thought that this would be a problem, due to the fact that they feared Selena would not be accepted by the Mexican community or the Tejano genre of music. However, Selena was the exception and rose to stardom in the Mexican community and became a cultural icon, bridging the gap between the Mexican and American culture. Selena was gaining widespread fame in Mexico, but she was also growing in popularity in the American music industry. A resident of Corpus Christi, Selena did many shows throughout Texas and was held in high regard to the Tejano community that occupied Texas. Selena was starting to make her transition into the American music industry and was in the process of creating her first English album when she was murdered on March 31st, 1995. Selena was murdered by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. Saldivar had been taking money from Selena’s boutiques and from the fan club. On the morning of March 31st 1995, at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Saldivar pulled a gun and shot Selena. Selena would make it to the hospital but surgeons were unable to save her
On March 31, 1995, 20-year-old spanish popstar, Selena Quintanilla was shot and killed at a Days Inn near Corpus Cristi, Texas. Yolanda Saldivar was found guilty for the murder of Selena on October 23, 1995. Yolanda was selenas fan club and boutique manager, over the course of selenas career, they became best friends. Yolanda claimed that she was not guilty, stating that she was not meaning to kill her best friend, but that she was using the weapon as a threat to get selena not to leave her.
Around the age of 10, she became the lead singer in the band. She was known as the “Queen of Tejano”, a type of Mexican music that sounded like country music. Her family’s band started out playing at weddings and clubs in their native Texas featuring her brother Abraham on the bass guitar, her sister Suzette on drums, and her father being the group’s producer and manager. Abraham opened a Mexican restaurant, Papagayo, in Lake Jackson, Texas. The children started doing gigs at the restaurant and provided entertainment to the dining guests under the name “Selena y Los Dinos” . When the restaurant closed down, the children's band didn't. They started doing gigs at other locations like fairs and community gatherings. They continued to prosper.

Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. The tones of the songs remain marginally unchanged; however, the musical lyrics, have continually evolved alongside the embracing culture.

Sacred places can be considered sacred for a few reasons. Whether a god inhabits the site, maybe the god created the place, or may just have paid the site a visit. Sacred sites can also gain a spiritual connection from a historic religious person such as Muhammed or Jesus Christ. Birth and death places of saints and prophets are also considered sacred. These sites can also be places where relics are found such as a splinter from the cross or a bone from an apostle.
But, that all changed when she started to become popular among Tejano music fans. Leading her to win “best female vocalist of the year” and “performer of the year” at the Tejano Music Awards. Justa was an alcoholic woman who mistreated and physical abuse Barraza. “One day her mother lost in his addiction and not having money, changed to Juana for three beers, allowing an older man molesting Juana and raping her.
