“The righteousness of the blameless keeps his ways straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness”(Prov. 11:5). The story, “A Christmas Carol”, is about a cold-hearted man named Scrooge who transforms himself into a jolly, kind man when three Ghosts teach Scrooge about the spirit of Christmas. In the story, Charles Dickens illustrates the theme of how no one is past redemption through the transformation of Scrooge’s personality by the lessons of the Spirits. At the beginning of the story, Scrooge’s selfish personality is revealed, and the Ghost of Christmas Past comes and shows him the memories and truth of his life long ago.
A Christmas Carol Essay A cold-hearted sinner, Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol has been called one of the most dynamic characters in literature. He changed in many ways from the beginning to the end of the book. Scrooge changed from a miser to a giver, an antisocial to a man who enjoys conversation, and a grump who no one likes to a kinder man whom is loved by everybody. At the beginning of the book, Scrooge would not give anything to anyone. He would only let his clerk have one coal to keep himself warm even in the winter.
While having a conversation with his nephew, Fred, he displays that rudeness by saying to Fred, “Nephew, keep Christmas in your own way and let me keep it in mine.” Clearly, Scrooge has no regard for Christmas, and he doesn't care about being with any family members during the holidays. Furthermore, in conversation with the Gentleman Visitor, Scrooge made a few ill-mannered comments. One such comment is, “All right, all right, I can read. What is it you want?”
The first ghost to haunt scrooge was Jacob, Scrooge´s only friend. Scrooge had only one friend because he drew a hard bargain. I think Jacob came back to haunt Scrooge to teach him how to be a more of a kind person. Scrooge's nephew, pays his uncle a visit and invites him to his once a year Christmas party. Two broad gentlemen also came by to ask Scrooge for a donation to their charity.
The theme of isolation continues through the extract and is shown by how Dickens separates Scrooge indoors, and the people enjoying Christmas outdoors. ‘He could hear the people in the court outside’ tells the reader that whilst people are celebrating Christmas outside, ‘beating their breasts, and stamping their feet upon the pavement stones to warm them’, Scrooge is sat alone, indoors, with ‘a very small fire’ going. This separation shows to the reader that Scrooge is unwelcomed and is casted out in society, for he is antisocial and is always fixated on money
A Frosty rime was on his head, and on his eyebrows, and his wiry chin. He carried his own low temperature always about with him; he iced his office in the dog-days; and didn’t thaw it one degree at Christmas.” (Dickens #3) When Dickens describes Scrooge 's childhood, he uses personification to put emphasis on how 'merry ' the sound of the young boys is by saying 'the crisp air laughed to hear it! ' The sound of the boys playing and shouting is so delightful that even the 'air ' is laughing. The effect of this personification is to show how everything is affected by the good nature of the children.
Yet Ebenezer’s frozen heart doesn’t care until the moment Future(ghost) takes him upon his own
The ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present, and last but not least the ghost of Christmas to come. (Dickens 9) In the movie Scrooge is despised by everyone he knows. Everyone who walks by him is afraid to ask him a question or even bump him accidentally while
This passage, from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, discusses the character development of Ebenezer Scrooge, along with the irony regarding the Ghost of Christmas Present’s response to Scrooge’s evident transformation. The quote shows Scrooge expressing sympathy towards the declining health of Tiny Tim, the son of Scrooge’s employee, as Scrooge wishes for Tim not to die due to his illness. Scrooge is portrayed earlier in the book as a greedy, selfish man, who only cares about the money he earns, not willing to share it with those in need. This is further explained when Scrooge is asked about sharing some of his vast supply of money with the poor, as he responds by saying that if they must die, they should do so to decrease the surplus population; this depicts Scrooge’s initial despise and disrespect towards those poorer than him. Thus, by begging and showing desire for the revived health

Compare and Contrast Rusty Eric once said that “As long as greed is stronger than compassion, there will always be suffering.” Greed is something that is all too common in our world. It has taken over many lives in the past, present, and it will still continue in the future. Ebenezer Scrooge, an old, cruel man in the a drama A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, is one of the many who have been consumed by the lonely, suffering life of the greedy. In this drama, Scrooge has lost all liking for Christmas and has shut himself off from the world until he is visited by three ghosts that show him the true meaning of Christmas, and restore the love he once had for his family and friends.
At the beginning of A Christmas Carol,Scrooge is mean, selfish, and greedy. He is mean, because on pg.9, he never donates to the poor, and he always yells at little kids. Scrooge is also selfish because on pg.12, he never pays a day wages for no work. They say “it's a poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every twenty-fifth of december!”Also, another word is he is greedy,on pg.17, says he is caustic and cold as ever and never gave anything to anyone. He said “what do you want with me.
In the first stave of Christmas Carol I think a theme is hate. Scrooge obviously doesn’t like Christmas, but dislikes those who even talk about it. When his nephew came in he said “merry christmas uncle Scrooge and may God save you!” This quote was on page 3. His nephew, obviously tries to get along with his uncle, but Scrooge refuses to cooperate.
Have you ever heard of someone being mean and selfish to being someone kind and giving? Well in the play “A Christmas Carol” By Israel Horovitz, A grumpy old miser living in the city of London He was greedy and selfish and only cared about money. He hated Christmas and he thought it was a waste of money. Now this is the story of how Scrooge's life changed.
