The Crucible is a play about the witch-hunts and trials in the seventeenth- century Salem, Massachusetts. A group of teens in 1962 were accused of voodoo victuals in the woods. Abigail is one of the girls from the group teens, she is the leader of the group. She is an engaging character because she played so many parts and has so many personalities. In the play”The Crucible” by (Arthur Miller) Abigail’s accusations and manipulation on people caused her to be the main protagonist. Abigail is only 17 years old at this time. She was living with her uncle Samuel Parris did to her parents tragedy. Although Abigail seems like she was a good child, she was no victim of the society she lives in. “My name is good in the village ! I will not have it said my name is soiled! Goody Proctor is a gossiping liar!” (Abigail 12; Act 1). In my opinion is the only reason why she act out is because of her parents death and how it happened in front of her that tragedy damaged her life. Since then she been taking advantage of people like Proctor. “You loved me John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet! John, pity” (Abigail 22; Act 1). Abigail tried to make John feel guilty when he trying to do the right thing and fix his marriage. Miller description of women shows multiple problems. He is making a statement about gender, that it is easier for women to fall into a trap not being able to think for themselves. Also the description of the woman roles that was played in this to be useful for those who was in position of power as opposed to serving the public good. Although Abigail is 17 years old she is very smart, she knows how to get out of trouble. In The Crucible she has so many personal traits, selfish, manipulative, jealous, and a liar.
