Football is the most aggressive and violent sport in America. In an article entitled “Does Playing Football Make You Violent?” Dan Diamond uses medical evidence to support the fact that football instills violence in players. Football players experience repeated blows to the head on the field, which can affect their control over their emotions. Football players are taught to be aggressive and strong on the field, but off the field, they are unable to switch between aggression and everyday life emotions due to many factors that could be prevented by better helmets or different coaching techniques. Many football players get hits through their helmets that could cause a brain disease called CTE, which affects the lobe of their brain that is vital for emotion control and aggression. The number of football players arrested for domestic violence and murder has increased over the years. Aaron Hernandez, a player who was sentenced for murder, killed himself, leaving doctors to find out later that he had CTE. The disease cannot be seen until the football player is deceased and it is too late. When a young boy wants to become a football player, the first thing he is told is that he must be very aggressive to be a good football player. When football players grow up and get new coaches, they are told to be more aggressive if they want to win. In 2009, the New Orleans Saints players were told that if they hurt the other team’s players, they would get paid more money. Coaches are making violence appear as a good thing by rewarding the players. Once they reward the players, being aggressive becomes second nature to players and they are unable to show any other emotion. Coaches should not reward players for being aggressive, but should reward them for good
