Is gaining power always worth for the toll it takes? It could cost something greater in the future. Macbeth was a play by William Shakespeare to pay tribute to King James I after his attempted assignation. The play takes place in Scotland during a violent time about the Macbeth tragedy of ambition. Macbeth, a play written by William Shakespeare, describes Lady Macbeth’s traits as manipulative, guilt, and regretful in order to reveal that one’s ambition can lead to their downfall. Shakespeare use Lady Macbeth’s trait of feeling guilt in order to explain ones for great ambition to power lead to their doom. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have the king at their castle and plan to kill him. Macbeth plans on finishing him, but begins having second thought while lady would do it if; “had he not resembled my father as he slept, I had done’t” (II.ii.12-13). Lady Macbeth felt guilt about Duncan to kill him because he resembled her father. Lady Macbeth would not hurt him by having a bit of a conscience. Lady Macbeth’s Gentlewoman gets a doctor to see Lady Macbeth walking in her sleep to wash her hands and speak; “out damed spot! Out, I say! One: two: why, then’tis time to dot, hell is murky, fie, my lord, fie! A soldier and aferd” (V.i. 31-32). She feels regretful for her sins she committed and try to forget. The spot represents the sins and tries to wash them away. It represents the regret she has for in acting the murder. Shakespeare uses Lady Macbeth’s character of regretful in order to response that a dread act of ambition leads to a regretful downward defeat.
