In the two stories “The lorax” and “Easter Island” there are lots of differences and similarities. Both stories have environmental issues dealing with trees and air quality. The environment in each story became a wasteland and was eventually polluted by trash. Once-ler in the lorax story and the Polynesians in the Easter island story tried to protect the environment but both failed to do so, all natural resources were lost and everything went downhill from there.

His Books always have a theme or a moral to the story just like when he wrote “The Lorax” and “The Butter Battle Book”. I believe the shared moral between these two books is that humans tend to forget that everyone has an opinion and when we become immersed in power and wealth we tend to dominate and desecrate the environment.

Words that rhyme, alliteration, and basic words help the reader to understand what is going on in the story and intrigue the child to continue reading. Children's authors were influenced by Dr. Seuss's writing style such as Deb Lund, Sylvia Lieberman, and Jill Starishevsky. Theodor Seuss Geisel aka Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1940, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Theodor Robert Geisel, a successful brew master, and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. He had two sisters, Marnie, two years older, and Henrietta 3 ½ years younger. Henrietta died at the age of five due to pneumonia. Dr. Seuss attended Dartmouth College, where he became the editor in chief of its humor magazine, Jack-O-Lantern. After graduating from Dartmouth, Geisel attended Oxford University in England. His planned was to become a professor but life had different plans for him. He met his wife Helen Palmer at the Oxford University. They got married in 1927 that same year he dropped out of Oxford, and the couple moved back to the United States. In October 1967, Helen struggled for a decade with paralysis from Guillain-Barre syndrome, she also suffered from depression, and she had a paranoid of Dr. Seuss having an affair with his longtime friend Audrey Stone Dimond. Helen sadly committed suicide on 1967 at age of 68. Dr. Seuss and Audrey got married on 1968.

This means that a larger quantity of trees need to be planted than what are cut each year. This would allow for the services which the ecosystem provides such as the storage of carbon dioxide, keeping the balance between the water on the land and in the atmosphere and providing habitats for animals to keep being offered. Reforestation is, however, not a sustainable solution since there would be a need for a severely great effort if we were to be able to reduce the negative effects of deforestation. Reforestation furthermore won’t prevent species from becoming extinct since it wouldn’t be done near their habitats due to the presence of e.g. agricultural farmers. Nor will the newly planted trees be able to store the carbon dioxide which has been released prior to it having begun to grow. It would therefore be more realistic to encourage all parties involved in the process of deforestation to manage the resources of the forest in a sustainable way. This means that the usage of the methods of clear-cutting and burning would have to be eliminated if the forest ecosystem is to be able to remain intact. If certain trees need to be cut down, however, then theses should be replaced by enough young trees which can fill the same role to an equal extent as the ones which are cut down. Here it’s important to acknowledge that it’s impossible to eliminate deforestation completely since the growing population puts a high demand for more land which is used for agricultural purposes. One can really understand the true meaning of courage by reading the books To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The book by Harper Lee is written by a 9 year old’s perspective named Scout. Throughout the book she discovers many mockingbirds in her society and the trouble they have to live through. This helps the reader identify many subtopics in the book like prejudice vs tolerance, compassion vs ignorance and more importantly courage vs cowardice. She deciphers the true meaning of courage vs cowardice when she meets the mystery character, Boo Radley. The book by Sherman Alexie too has similar themes and settings. It’s based on the struggles Indian’s face in America due to their race. The book uses a teenagers perspective to exhibit these struggles. This helps teenagers connect to the book as even they might have perspectives similar to of Junior’s (main character). Both the authors use similar literary devices like external conflict, internal conflict and characterization to keep the reader interested in the text. In both the texts one can see that the thematic idea conveyed is that courageous people don’t roar about their strength, but they use it to benefit the community as a whole.
