France has always been an extraordinary place to visit but we don’t always look at the history behind these perfect landscapes and beautiful language. Even less do we look as far back as a country’s neolithic past. What we don’t realize is that a country’s past is equally, or even more, beautiful as it’s present. France’s plants, animals, and location have been great historical resources and have brought it to be one of the greatest countries there is today. Indigenous plants such as the chestnut and yellow gentian were very important to civilization in France. “These specific plants helped in the making of medicine and sturdy houses.”- Chestnut trees and Find a Vitamin or Supplement, Gentian The yellow gentian roots and bark, for example, were used for many different illnesses such as fever, hysteria, skin wounds, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and vomiting only to name a few. In foods gentian was also used as an ingredient to add nutrition and digestive help. Chestnut trees were mainly cut down for their wood to build timber houses. The wood is very durable so neolithic communities were safe from superior predators such as bob cats, wolves, and bears. According to Britannica, “red deer, roe deer, wild boar, and fallow deer were native to France.” These mammals were hunted for their nutritional values such as proteins and lipids. Proteins and lipids gave people the energy they needed to complete and follow through with their daily chores. Apart from their nutritious meat, deer were hunted for their antlers. They were used to make tools that made surviving easier. By making the tools out of antlers they become more durable than wooden tools. Even though deers where haunted daily they were never at risk of extinction because of the great population
