Science is everywhere, in nature’s beauty in a laugh between friends the buildings we build and the communities we form. It’s constantly wondering why things are the way they are, how can we make things better, what are we in the grand scheme of the universe? It spans from the depth of space to the air we are breathing right now. During the enlightenment era scientific revolution brought ideas around calculus, atomic theory and gravity to our world, the industrial revolution saw the significant technological and manufacturing developments including the first cars and in the digital age scientist help spur the formation of the internet as a means to share research and ideas. Today we see the rejection of scientific evidence of vaccination, leading to preventable diseases like measles coming back after being wiped out in the year 2000 or the rejection of scientific evidence for climate change despite the vast agreement among scientist. As Carl Sagan an American astronomer once said “We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology”. And yet when we look to history we see that ignoring science has led to the crumbling of societies. Ancient Greece was a time of great learning around ideas of space, time and light and during the subsequent Roman empire these ideas were mostly embraced, however the Romans were being smug about the learnings of the Greeks and there was little innovation or exploration of new ideas around science and knowledge took place during this era, with shifting governments and values, emphasis on reason and science slipped away and Rome eventually fell into the dark ages. In Steven Shapin’s book, The Scientific Revolution, he described the massive scientific changes that occurred from the late 16th to the early 18th centuries. Shapin utilizes the scientists and their findings to demonstrate the changes that affected Western civilization. He describes his theory of the Scientific Revolution as he proves that the world has always had scientific advances. Steven Shapin states his thesis which influenced the modern world, that the Scientific Revolution did not happen during a single time period through the use of the three essential questions: What was known, How was it known, and What was the Knowledge for.
Along with various components, ancient festival’s helps ignite spiritual possession; in particular, through the sexual cults of Dionysus/Bacchus, persisting of mysterious origins. Many of the ancient lands we learn about in school are situated in river valleys teeming with silt that’s just waiting for stuff to be grown in it. This doesn’t make things easy for them, exactly, but, at the very least, that part of their life is taken care of. They can get both water and food from these river valleys they call home, as well as wealth from trading their crops. This was the case for both Mesopotamia and Egypt. Ancient Greece, however, as stated in Document 1, did not have these advantages.

Have you ever thought of how many types of gods there are and how strong they are? The ancient Greeks always had this on their mind, because there were different types of gods such as titan gods, underworld gods, and sky gods. The ancient Greeks always thought that gods ruled from the top of mount Olympus so that's why they held their olympics at the bottom so they can please the gods. Additionally, there were demigods, monsters, and heros.

Jose Torres Due September 28, 2015 Homer on War and the Gods War was clearly a significant past time in the eras of ancient Greece. We look back at ancient cultures and we see a lot of art or if possible writings that contribute to our understandings of what life used to be like for perhaps a Citizen of Troy. We see several works of art such as busts or vases that heavily coincide with our knowledge of Ancient Greek and in particular their secular worshipping of the Greek gods.
