Vera Claythorne is a cold-blooded murderer who kills innocent children. And Then There Were None is a book by Agatha Christie where ten seemingly average people get invited to an island and all get accused of murdering people, then they slowly start to get killed one by one. Vera Claythorne is the most guilty character in the book And Then There Were None because she murdered an innocent child, murdered him so she could get money and marry her true love, and Vera even thought of herself as the most guilty because she killed herself.
Vera seems like an average lady who got a job offer to Soldier Island from the owner of the island U.N. Owen.
She murdered Cyril, an innocent child she was babysitting. She murdered him by telling him to swim to

Aileen murdered Mallory, shooting him four times with a .22 handgun. She would steal the car and then go back to her girlfriends. She right then and there confessed to her, and Tyria would not believe her. Then they packed up all their things, and drove off in the stolen car. Aileen had somewhat thought this process through, because she had dumped what was in the car at one place, then the car at another place, and left the body in the original location.
When she got there he strangled her and hid her body in a

Bad things happen to good people. A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket, is a story about the orphans that are in a bad situation. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire parents died in a fire while Count Olaf is trying to steal their fortune. They escaped Count Olaf and got to safety for a little. They learned that bad things happen to good people too.
Arthur Dimmesdale was the town minister in The Scarlet Letter, a story of a young woman who committed adultery and faced the consequences, such as wearing a scarlet “A” on her chest. Dimmesdale was a very interesting character because he was very religious but also committed a sin that haunted him everyday. He also happened to be the man who was involved in the young woman’s adultery. He was never convicted, however he still faced the consequences everyday. Dimmesdale was a man of God.
In Agatha Christie's book And Then There Were None, Emily Brent is a character that is deceptive because, although appearing to be a fine person with strong morals and a commitment to the bible, Emily Brent is actually a self-righteous murderer who manipulates the bible. Emily Brent comes across as a pleasant yet wary individual. On the surface, she appears to be mature and polite. She gives the impression of being a religious woman because she frequently reads and quotes from her Bible. As indicated in Chapter 1 Section IV, “Enveloped in an aura of righteousness and unyielding principles, Miss Brent sat in her crowded third-class carriage and triumphed over its discomfort and its heat”(Christie).
Secrets eat away at the soul, wearing it down piece by piece until there is nothing left. This causes guilt to completely cloud a vision of a person making sure the secret is concealed. This leads to the person to become consumed by the secret and can damage a person into becoming ill for keeping confidentiality. The soul suffers from containing the truth becomes ill as well. The soul becomes just as damaged as the person wounded by the truth not being exposed.
She killed her five children, ages ranging from seven years old to six months old by drowning them in the bathtub. Her family history of mental illness as well as her upbringing contributed to the incident. She was raised as a Roman Catholic and part of the reason why she killed her children was because “…she had been marked by Satan and the only way to save her children from hell was to kill them.” Her family’s religious views brought in the idea that parents are responsible for their children’s afterlife path, if they went to heaven or hell. (McLellan) Her mental state was fragile even before the birth of her youngest child, and it continued to worsen after.
In Nothing But the Truth there is one thing that stood out to me throughout the entire book. The whole book is full of lies. Philip Malloy tells lies about everything and to everyone. He lies to his parents, the principal, and even to a reporter that is interviewing him. Throughout the book we continue to see the lies play out until the very end of the book when Philip finally decides to tell the truth.
This lead people to believe he killed her due to the his claims that nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Her dad said he had broken a window a few weeks earlier. He had forgotten to fix it, so this made it easier for someone else to get in. This cover up would lead suspicions away from him and point straight towards an intruder. With her dad living in the same household, it gives him easy access to his daughter in her sleep.
Sometimes individuals get so determined to reach their goal they become lost and find their selves blind to their original desire in the process. Throughout AVI’s nothing but the truth, Philip Malloy and his narrow minded attitude bounces from wanting to be a part of the track team to becoming allies with his homeroom teacher, Miss Narwin. Phil becomes distracted overtime which leads towards him making choices that end up affecting other character’s daily lives. Phil’s hate for Miss Narwin forces him to get kicked out of her class due to him humming which turns into neither Phil nor Miss Narwin being able to attend Harrison high school any longer. Philips regretful decisions ultimately lead to a undeserved loss of a career and a developed well
