Opinions are controversial, period; but when you mix politics in it, it gets messy. Andrew Jackson might have thought some his decisions wise, but ended up being the opposite, or vise-versa. My thoughts on Andrew Jackson are: I was in favor of some things he did, but others not so much. When you work in politics, you honestly can’t make everyone happy, so I couldn’t expect Jackson to be perfect.
Andrew Jackson was a controversial figure because he did so many negative things to so much innocent people. He was one of the first imperial presidents and one who was not a Virginia planter or a New England Federalist. Our country has been through a great deal and Jacksons presidency is not even over; a controversy that started before his presidency would the Henry Clay's role in the election of 1824. Was Andrew Jackson a dictator or a man of the people? Andrew Jackson was a controversial man, he was seen as such both during and after his time. But in my perspective, he was a man of the people. Andrew Jackson was constantly supporting farmers and always looked for what was best for them. In my opinion, Andrew jackson was a bad President because he wasn’t wise and didn’t know how to lead the U.S. Not only did he not know how to be a leader, but he was also unfair to his people, made bad decisions in life and in governing, and hurt many people. One reason Jackson was a bad President was because he gave government jobs to only his friends and people that were on his side and supported him, this was called the Spoil System according to many of the citizens that lived in America. If someone wanted to be Senate or Vice President and they weren’t on Jackson’s side, they would not get the job because Jackson would only pick his supporters. Also, when Jackson gave these jobs to his supporters, most of them were unqualified

He had to go through so much, but everything he did as president was for the country. He applied a new bill stating that the government jobs should only have a 4 year guarantee of a job in that position. This helped him get all the Republicans out so it could be more fair to Democrats. People questioned it because was it supposed to help him become more powerful or actually help the people of the United States?
The era of Andrew Jackson which was nicknames the era of the “common man” certainly lived up to its name. As the seventh President of the United States, Jackson had a major effect on the life of the common man, in such a way that the life of the common man would never be the same again. Jackson’s aim, after the manner in which he was defeated in the Presidential Election of 1824, despite receiving more popular votes than John Quincy Adams who took on the office, was to reduce the power and the authority of the elite. When he came into power after the 1828 election Jackson began to carry out his proposals. Jackson expanded the voting right to all men, in accordance with the Declaration of Independence of 1776 which declared that “all men are created equal” instead of just the elite.
However, Jackson leaves a legacy of a strong presidency. He has made the executive branch superior to Congress and shows that the president represents the will of the people.
