Obstacles that we encounter can be important in molding and shaping our later success. There have been several challenging events that have occurred throughout the duration of my life that has seemingly impacted my current status. One major event that has recently affected me was my mother being diagnosed with Cancer in October of 2016. This news not only emotionally affected me, but it impacted me physically and mentally as well. Prior to my mother’s diagnosis I was steadfast in pursuing a career in the medical field; however, I wasn’t completely sure which path I wanted to take. I juggled careers as a psychologist, psychiatrist, and pediatrician. As a result of her illness, my mother had to go through a series of surgeries, procedures, and appointments that I attended with her. Over the course of time I begin to take notice of the role of the Anesthesiologist and the Assistant of the Anesthesiologist and then I researched their salary, specific duties, and requirements associated with both jobs, I took interest as I noticed the requirements mirrored stuff I had already accomplished and things I still wanted to accomplish; I was also able to speak with the anesthesiologist. In doing so I followed her instructions and participated in several school activities and events displaying school spirit all the while maintaining an ‘A’ honor roll throughout the duration of my Junior year. During the last term of my 11th grade year I even went as far as maintaining an ‘100’ average in all 6 of my honor classes; ending with a 4.79 weighted grade point average. Anna Harrington’s, “Where There is a Will, There is a Way” refers to how I have handled my employment circumstance over the last 14 years (Harrington,2012). Resilience has been wonderful but also a dreadful problem for me. I have learned to take resilience and set goals with it. Continuing to strive for better, even through tough times, have allowed me to face all fears with pride.
