In every relationship there is always an unequal relationship with the significant other. In the short story The Chaser by John Collier, Alan Austen who’s the main character in the short story goes to an old man to buy a love potion so this girl named Diana would fall in love with him. The basic principle states that men and women have a relationship that is unequal or oppressive. In the short story “The Chaser”, it shows feminist criticism by feeling unconfident, buying a love potion, and Diana’s treatment of Mr. Austen.

An article we read this semester, Girls Gone Anti-Feminist highlights the disconnect between feminism in the 70s to feminism by millennials today. One interesting thing I found in this article was the way the author compared Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin to the Spice Girls and Lady Gaga as representing feminism. Normally, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin are not mentioned in the same sentence as the Spice Girls and Lady Gaga as they are in completely different professions and have different fan basses and followers. However, all of them embody the idea that a woman can be anything she wants to be from a singer to President of the United States. The way the author compares these women points out the differences in the broad ways feminism can be represented.

Feminist scholar Audre Lorde has thoroughly documented this phenomenon, having been on the receiving end of white feminist scapegoating more than once. In her speech "The Uses of Anger," which she delivered at a 1981 National Women's Studies Association Conference, Lorde recounts the the times she's been dismissed as "angry" for bringing critiques of racism into predominantly white feminist spaces.

It takes a tremendous amount of courage to be able to live in this world as a woman, let alone a woman who wants things to change because a woman’s silence will not protect her. Throughout society today, the idea of feminism stirs up many different types of emotions and views of exactly what feminism is. A lot of people think that women's rights have already been accomplished. For example, yes, we've earned Title IX and laws against gender discrimination. Judy Brady’s “I Want A Wife” is a revolutionary piece that attempted to reveal the unequal roles men and women held in society. She goes through her prose by listing all the responsibilities her wife must have and the ways to make her happy. Brady’s whole article is satirizing these roles and is, in general, very sarcastic in her tone. She mocks a society that has given women an impossible standard and she starts with the deprivation of her education then continues with the role her wife should play in domestic ways, and then finishes with the expectations the sexual aspects of their relationship. I believe that Brady’s underlying message was and still is important for the development of equality in our nation.

We can see women such as Alice Paul and Carrie Chapman Catt as racist. Elizabeth Cady Stanton often invites Blacks to her home and were treated with respect. Ida Wells-Barnett have visited Stanton and require the service of Anthony’s secretary. Stanton’s secretary refused because she explain that she would not work for the Blacks. The NAWSA did not keep Black women from creating their own campaign as individuals and organization put their own efforts into the suffrage movement. Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun presents the rise of feminism in America in the 1960s. Beneatha Younger, Lena Younger (Mama) and Ruth Younger are the three primary characters displaying evidences of feminism in the play. Moreover, Hansberry creates male characters who demonstrate oppressive attitudes towards women yet enhance the feministic ideology in the play. A Raisin in the Sun is feminist because, with the feminist notions displayed in the play, women can fulfil their individual dreams that are not in sync with traditional conventions of that time.

Throughout the short story we see an overarching theme of oppression of women for equality because of defined gender roles that society uses to categorize women and men. John Steinbeck does a magnificent job in portraying the characters in different ways that allows them to share different qualities. For example, we see the protagonist Elisa Allen introduced as a wife of a rancher who is strong. The author describes her as a great gardener who loves to garden chrysanthemums that seem to symbolize the mind of Elisa. When we first meet her John Steinbeck introduces her wearing men’s clothing as he states, “Her figure looked blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man 'sblack hat pulled low down over her eyes, clod-hopper shoes, a figured

¨If Hip Hop has the ability to corrupt minds, it also has the ability to uplift them.¨ Hip hop music, also called rap music, is a music genre developed in the United States by African Americans consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Mainstream hip hop culture is also filled with misogyny and negative images of women. These artists are unaware that sexism has been forced onto them through the brainwashing from the media, which is controlled by a patriarchal society. Conversely, feminism is the belief that both genders should have equal power. Mainstream hip hop culture contradicts feminism because it degrades women, promotes male dominance and hypermasculinity. On the other hand, feminism focuses on equity for both genders.

Whenever the slightest portrayal of sexism is seen, feminists are quick to react and correct what is wrong. The solution to sexism is not to blatantly ignore it and say it does not exist anywhere; the solution is to stand up for what is right and implement the actions that need to take place. In “Bad Feminists” by Roxane Gay, it was stated that “[her] favorite definition of a feminist is one offered by Su, an Australian woman who...described them simply as ‘women who don't want to be treated like shit’” (Gay 169). That is basically essential for all bad feminists. In relation to that, the women in the article “Female Chauvinist Pigs” use that approach to feminism to define different aspects of life. More so than not wanting to be treated like shit, they just want to be recognized by their male counterparts to even get a start. Based solely on their gender, women are already placed at a disadvantage in the workplace

For as long as the world has existed there has been sexism. Even after the women rights act was passed in the 1920’s there has still been discrimination against women. Wether it be in the workforce, online, or just out in public sexism still happens. In the year 2018 women should not still be discriminated simply for their gender. Many people wonder as to what would be the best approach to end sexism. I believe the best approach to end sexism is an equality feminism approach. The only way to truly ever get rid of sexism would be to see women as equals and offer women the same resources and training that the men receive to help them succeed. If this were to happen it would show women have the same potential as men and that they just need the proper training. To do this we as a whole would have to find a way to end institutional sexism. So when it comes to looking for a solution an equality feminism would be the best way not only would it show men and women were created equal, for this to happen there would need to be an end to the levels of sexism, in the long run this would be the best way

Misinterpretation on feminism becomes an issue in America because the definition altered in various communities. In the essay, “Feminist Politics: Where We Stand”, the author Bell Hooks discusses the misconception of feminism in the United States. Bell Hooks states that the reason of the misconception of feminism occurs because of the patriarchy of America because mass media represents feminism as an anti-male group. However, feminism is the exact opposite of an anti male groups. Feminism defines itself for equality between men and women. Women created feminism because of the unfair treatment women face because of the male dominated patriarchy. What modern feminists refuse to admit is that feminism is only one side of a two-sided coin of inequality. A “movement” that advocates for the rights of one gender over another is sexist and unequal by nature. If feminists were striving for equality, then they wouldn’t be FEMinists. Being feminist, simply put, means that you want women to not only be equal to, but greater than men.. Thus, I believe that feminism is a poorly made masquerade to cover women’s desire to control men.

In Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”, they recognize the life of the Igbos which are a tribe in the village of Umuofia during European colonization. There are many topics brought up in this book like the effects of colonization, culture and tradition, religion, race, etc. It is relatively easy to read “Things Fall Apart” as an anti-feminist text due to the face that the Igbo clan’s customs and traditions seem to side towards masculine features, such as power and strength. The novel is told through a male protagonist’s point of view in nineteenth century Nigeria, while women there do not have much rights, they do wield heavy influence over the leaders of the clan.

In this article, we will be discussing how feminism is still needed as there is a lack of gender equality. Till this day there are still women that are not given the opportunity to be educated like men, females’ salaries are less than males’ salaries and women are treated as if their job is to serve men. Women and men should have equal rights because no one is more superior to the other gender. Sexism is still a struggle in our society that has to be tackled as it makes us as women feel unworthy and not capable of things that we can actually do. We are all human beings therefore we all have the same abilities as well as we all have goals we want to achieve but it is a struggle for women more than it is for men.
