CHAPTER 2
ANIMAL ABUSE IN EXPERIMENTS Using animals in research and to test the safety of products is a very huge issue for decades. People have different feelings for animals; many look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research. Individuals perceive animals, the fact remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Animals' rights are violated when they are used in research. According to Tom Regan, a philosophy

According to the petition, a new bill, which would amend the Act, was drafted two years ago but is currently languishing in parliament. “The current Act, passed four decades ago, has not been updated and imposes only minimal fines for even the most heinous cases of cruelty. The fine for any violation of the Act, committed any number of times, is merely Rs. 60. This is hardly a deterrent to those who commit acts of cruelty to the animals”. In 1999, PETA had exposed India’s cruel underground leather and meat trade. The investigations by PETA revealed the unholy nexus between corrupt traders and officials for smuggling the animals across State borders at night, and those animals that collapse during the march have their tailbones fractured just to keep them …show more content…
Firms which produce antibodies for making serums and vaccines by bleeding the horses use over-aged horses of the Army. Due to excessive administration of high doses of toxins (venoms, antigens), there have been several deaths of these horses in these firms and the State has failed (in its constitutional duty) to have compassion for living creatures. The state is not a breeder and under rules only a breeder can give away animals for such scientific experiments. So this is not only a violation of rules, but also the action is beyond the pale of imagination. The animal activists further argued that it was shockingly disturbing to find that the Army, after using the animals for 15 or more years, discards them like this. They can surely be allowed to graze in its many pastures. The animal activists in our country do not appreciate the use of animals in biological studies. They are equating cruelty to animals committed by corrupt leather and meat traders to animal experiments conducted for scientific investigations. Physiologists and pharmacologists had been in the bad books of animal activists as they were allegedly on of the users of pound dogs caught by the stray dogs. “Prevention of
As a society there should be a continuation of proceeding to develop new laws. Animals have rights that are not being protected or considered when they are not given the chance to live without suffering or harm. Additionally animal rights are violated when they are used as products for experimentation. Animal experimentations
The article discusses how the culture views these animals as “machine,” fed and breed for human consumption. Factory farms serve a purpose of providing mass-production and consumption for the food industry (Leder, 2012). There is evidence of overcrowding and animal alterations that often led to stress and other abnormal behaviors.
For decades humans have tested on helpless animals with cosmetics, medicines and other medical supplies such as bandages, cleaning products, candy, and even office supplies. Animal experimentation is a cruel and inhumane act upon creatures who are believed to be fearless and painless. But, on the contrary, others believe that animal testing has become a groundbreaking way of research for numerous diseases. Although many have mixed feelings about animal testing, it is something that we must address and take seriously, realizing that it is a horrible act upon innocent animals.
Almost all humans want to have possession and control over their own life, they want the ability to live independently without being considered someone’s property. Many people argue that animals should live in the same way as humans because animals don’t have possession of their lives as they are considered the property of humans. An article that argues for animal rights is “The case against pets” (2016) by Francione and Charlton. Gary L Francione and Anna E Charlton are married and wrote a book together, “Animal Rights: The Abolitionist Approach (2015). Francione is a law professor at Rutgers University and an honorary professor at University of East Anglia.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic Assignment 4: Proposal Change People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for the better Evina (S10165960E) T103 Writing for the Creative Industry Ms Sarvananda Sheela Chandrakala 10th February 2016 Table of Contents Content 1 Proposition2 Preface 2 Position 4 Problem/Potential 6 Possibility 7 Proposal 8 Works Cited 10 Proposition This proposal aims to support People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the non-governmental animal rights organisation. PETA’s movement is; firstly, to reveal the truth behind what happens to animals in laboratories and farms; and secondly, to rally people to go vegan and shop cruelty-free. The three campaigns will provide aid in PETA’s movement to Singaporean youths.
Animals having rights will change medical research, for example, If we do not have animals to experiment on to cure cancer, positive medicine for illness or disease then the death rate will go up. Testable Samaniego 1 products that a person uses on a daily bases such as, make-up, skin products, hair products, etc. Experiments can also be a good use to animals, “a 300 pound gorilla named koko was taught sign language and has mastered more than 1,000 signs and understands several thousand english words.” That being said, animals can be a helpful use for many things, making the world a better place.
Some states, explicitly criminalize a failure to provide an animal in one’s care with adequate food, water, veterinary care, and shelter. Other states cover these violations under vague neglect laws with no clear definitions or minimum standards of care outlined, leaving their interpretation to the whims of law enforcement officials who may be untrained in animal care standard. It would cause other problems because a quieter story has been unfolding behind the scenes in laboratories around the world-one whose effect on human perception and our understanding of life is likely to be profound. And these fellow creatures are more like us than we had ever imagined. Pressured by the animal rights activists and by growing public support for the humane treatment of animals, these companies have financed research into, among other
Animals in Research and Testing According to PETA, the animals who are in research and testing “shake and cower in fear whenever someone walks past their cages and their blood pressure spikes drastically. After enduring lives of pain, loneliness and terror, almost all of them will be killed,” (“Animal Testing 101”). Animal-testing is the use of non-human animals in research and development projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances, such as foods, beauty products, and/or drugs. Although animal research plays a crucial role in experiments focused on disease treatments and preventions, it is cruel, inhumane, and should be stopped. This is an act that should be banned and prohibited in all states and countries
Did you know that some farm animals are forced to eat so much that they cannot carry their own weight? It is cruel and inhumane treatment, but it is legal to our country. By examining physical changes, speciesism, and animal testing, it is clear that farm animals should have more protection from the government. An examination of these issues will reveal that farm animals suffer needlessly, and more government regulation of these animals is justified. Physical changes to farm animals’ bodies occur frequently in the farm industry and result in unnecessary pain and suffering.
The meat packing industry disregards animal’s emotions and their rights all together by the malicious treatment of animals. The way animals are being treated is highly unfair. Being slaughtered for their body parts and suffering just to be used for protein or an asset to humans is unbearable. An animal’s life is at equal values to a human and deserve the same rights as
Actually all testing and research done on animals should be under the control of government. The last and the most things is that it’s our responsibilities to take care of all the animals, even though they are just using for
Thesis Not just for our health but also for animal’s welfare, we need to be aware about what procedures animals are passing by and how they are being treated. Many of the most fatal sicknesses that affect humans can be prevented if we involve more in those harsh procedures that they suffer and try to look for new solutions to make it stop. Introduction Many times we are not even aware that our cold actions are not just affecting the defenseless animals but ourselves, our country, our economy. We don’t even think of how those actions are affecting the rest of the population, we just care about selling products and making money.
It is true that animal testing requires a lot of investment. Not only that money is spent on advanced technologies, it is also spent to pay for scientists’ expertise on this particular field. In order for the scientists to do their research, they need suitable equipment and substances. Every year, the National institutes of Health finances between $12 billion to $14.5 billion on animal testing as indicated in a study done by the government (Bastach, 2013). Besides, scientists need to consider the fact that animals need to be sheltered, fed and cared for to keep them alive.
COMMODITY: ANIMALS IN FACTORIES Animals should have the right to live a normal life as much as humans do. “When animal factories developed in the early 1970s” (Mason and Singer, 1990) people started to benefit more from the animals. Everyday we eat fresh meat, buy fur clothes but we are ignoring the fact of how these products are produced and coming in our hands, and what millions of animals are going through in these factories. The animals are stuffed inside cages and put in a violent and polluted environment. The truth behind these factories should be exposed, because people should know that it is getting out of control and it is affecting and damaging our environment and human health daily in a bad way.
Every year, over 39 million animals are killed inhumanely in the United States (Perdew). Many of these animals are not used for food and are often killed because they are not needed by the workers. These animals are abused and forced into harmful situations everyday for the selfish benefits of others. They are skinned, beaten, scalded, and slaughtered while still conscious and without any pain medication. Unfortunately, without any rights, animals are forced to go through immense amounts of suffering.
