The practice of animal testing is a very debatable topic. “Each year, more than 100 million animals, including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds are killed in U.S. laboratories” (Experiments). “The term “animal testing” refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial/agro-chemicals” (About). There is numerous pros and cons for using animals in experiments for humans for our everyday needs.

Animal Experimentation is a large controversial topic across the United States because of the harm forced upon innocent animals for the benefit of mankind’s health. The use of animals in laboratories is a common occurrence in the medical field, cosmetic industry, and in clothing production. Animals are used in experiments to test the safety, durability, and quality of many everyday products. In order to end these unethical testing methods, society must be informed of the harsh realities that include wasted profit due to expensive testing, unnecessary procedures that lead to inaccurate results, and the mental and physical abuse inflicted upon these innocent animals.

According to my research, animals has been in used for scientific testing early as 500 B.C. Scientist use animals purposely for medical treatment, determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and healthcare uses (Animal Testing, 4). It is estimated that over 26 million animals are used yearly in the U.S for scientific testing or other purpose. The reason why animals testing is so important for scientist and ultimately human race is because, animals testing allow the progress of life saving treatment for humans and animals. Second profound reason is, there no alternative means of conducting research that requires a complete living organism. The useage of animals

Animal experimentation has been going on for over 300 years and this is just what has been recorded in records. There are many types of test performed on animals:Draize Test: A laboratory test in which a cosmetic or drug is dropped into a rabbit 's eyes, which are held open with clips, to determine the level of irritation. Named after John Henry Draize, a twentieth century pharmacologist with the United States Food and Drug Administration. Also there is the LD50 Test: A toxicity test used in animal testing that is performed until 50 percent of the animals are dead. Animals should not be required to be tested on before the use of a medical drug, cosmetic, or food additive.

Animal testing is cruel, unjust, and wasteful, and it needs to stop. It is used to test cosmetics, to gain scientific knowledge, and for tests in schools. The Humane Society states that animal testing is tests performed on live animals for basic biology, medicinal, safety, or health research. Even small procedures have the capabilities to cause the animal high stress or discomfort. Some animals are used in future experiments, but most are killed soon after the tests. (About Animal Testing) The animals are often raised in captivity, specifically for experimentation and are killed after the tests. In the article “New Technologies Could Eliminate the Need for Animal Experimentation”, Andrew Rowan writes that animals are used for testing drugs,

95% of animals being used for animal testing are not covered by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). That is a high percentage of animals not protected and have a high chance of being mistreated. That is only a part of the problem when it comes to animal testing. The bigger issue is that the anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings. Their is no reason to test animals if it could mislead researchers from breakthroughs. By performing clinical trials on humans their would be better chances of finding cures and treatments.

Now animals are tested to see if the chemicals in cosmetics will burn humans or to find cures for diseases. Many of the tests that are performed on animals that are proved effective on animals do not work on humans. Unfortunately, many people do not know this and continue to support animal testing. Many of the methods that are used are cruel to the animal and makes them suffer. Although animal testing has helped scientists to find cures, it comes at a heavy price. The process described is that of animal experimentation, the act of performing experiments on an animal that can deliberately cause the animal suffering and even death. Animal testing should be abolished because it is unnecessary, inaccurate, and cruel to animals.

Animal testing is the inhumane act of using conscious, innocent animals to test products without care of what the aftermath may be. According to PETA, the largest animal rights organization in the world, more than 100 million animals are slaughtered in U.S. laboratories every year. Those who have the heart to inflict this type of brutality do this by immobilizing them in restraint devices for hours, in order to drill holes into their skulls and have their spinal cords crushed (PETA). Along with the physical atrocities that humans are forcing these vulnerable animals into, humans are also isolating them from their own kind, confining them in barren cages, and thus traumatizing them for the rest of their lives. Although comical, this scene may be quite accurate when describing the passion that animal lovers have when it comes to the touchy subject of animal testing. For centuries, animal testing has been used in the medical research field, however many are now beginning to question whether it is ethical. Millions of animals are killed per year due to animal testing, so is this practice worth banning? Animal testing is a controversial subject, with supporters pointing out the medical advances that have stemmed from animal research and animal rights activists declaring it cruel and immoral. However, both sides agree that it would be beneficial to reduce animal suffering by finding alternatives to this practice.

Throughout moral, humanistic, and social perspectives animal testing is beneficial for medical evolution.

Animal Testing is Inhumane. Multiple species are dying by normal nature happenings, such as being eaten or something like that. However, that 's just the life cycle. But even with this ongoing cycle, the deaths that happen in it don 't get anywhere close to the amount of animals killed by us humans. Each year, 100 million animals, including mice, rats, dogs, frogs, cats, and more, are all killed for scientific usage. These are usually used for new medicines, vaccines, etc. But is it really worth it? Killing off helpless animals for our own use? Obviously it 's not.
