Even though she shuts down due to her loss, she comes to the conclusion that those small moments are the most important. It is only through loss that life can truly be appreciated.
Since Gibbons decided to write her book on sensitive topics, she made the characters much like the people in her society. Abuse was kept a secret during the time Gibbons wrote her book, and that was reflected by Ellen not having anyone to talk to about her homelife. “I say I told you I wanted to come stay with you and you said fine. Now I am here and I got all my stuff that I brought from other place back in the bedroom closet.

When teens read this book, they can find comfort in relating to a character that has the same struggles as they do and feels a personal connection. He continues about Mick; “She knows I am deaf but she thinks I know about music.” (The Heart…183). Singer closes his letter to Antonapoulos with; “I do not understand, so I write to you because I think you will understand.” (The Heart…184). In both of his short stories, Ross clearly shows how both of his characters suffer from alienation and loneliness. Particularly, in “ The Painted Door” , Ross shows how Ann is isolated in her marriage, as well as of social events. Ann is a farmer’s wife who lives isolated from civilization because of both the distance between her and her neighbours, as well as the harsh winter weather. Ann is often forced to stay alone, where “ the distant farmstead she could see only served to intensify a sense of isolation” (Ross 289) . This physical separation can be directly linked to social isolation.
The female speaker then states, “My lord commanded me to live with him here;/ I had few loved ones or loyal friends/ in this country , which causes me great grief”(15-17). These lines prove that no matter what the scenario is, the man's wife has to do what pleases him even if it costs her leaving her loved ones at her home country. In the “Wife's Lament”, the feeling of detachment and depression by the female speaker, describes the lack of control over her situation. For instance, the speaker announces “...I walk alone in the light of dawn/ under the oak-tree and through this earth-cave,/ where I must sit the summer-long day;/ there I can weep for all my exiles,/ my many troubles; and so I may never/ escape from the cares of my sorrow mind,...”(35-40).

Anne Frank Essay “We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.” — Anne Frank. There are many differences and similarities between the play of Anne Frank and her well known diary. One similarity is that Anne has a negative relationship with her mother.
In “The Diary of a Young Girl,” Anne Frank changes from a sharp-witted, sarcastic girl to an understanding and mature young lady. In her diary entries, she often complains about her mother and how nobody knows how she feels. In the later entries, she explains that she never considered anyone else’s feelings, and that those entries were only the result of heated anger. As she looks back on these entries, she feels that she has come to terms with herself and her family. In this essay I will explain what events changed her outlook on life.
