School Bullying Linked to Lower Academic Achievement. (2017). Education Digest.
The article, "School Bullying Linked to Lower Academic Achievement", by the American Psychological Association (APA), expresses how vital the prevention of bullying is to children (from elementary to high school), as it can lead to many severe side-effects that will undoubtedly change their lifestyle forever. Every teacher and parent already know the mist of bullying, however, they do not know what goes on behind the scenes. Furthermore, the APA then goes on to discuss the importance of anti-bullying programs not only in elementary school, but even in high school. Even though bullying tends to decrease as students get older, there are still plenty of cases of bullying that go unnoticed, specifically in high school.

The organization has quite a name for itself, as it has well over one hundred thousand members in the United States. The main focus of the program is, "to advance psychology to benefit society and improve people’s lives". The intended audience of the article are realistically for anyone and everyone, however, it is perhaps aimed more towards adults. This is because it talks about how change is needed, whether in the school system, or at home and thus, is why adults are targeted. This article illuminates our placement class due to how vulnerable our students are to bullying. Just because our students may not be able to think as complexly as others, it does give others a reason to bully them. Especially in this generation, it is important for us and the adults who look after these special children, as students who are heavily influenced by social media, may have an altered opinion/feeling about our students. Not only are all students equal, but every kid should be treated with the up-most respect, and
In this article, Ferriter (2009) reveals many benefits from the use of technology in the classroom with our 21st-century learners. The resources and suggestions mentioned throughout this reading will assist teachers in ways to avoid problems and becoming engaging instructors by using technology in innovative ways. What I found was so innovative by this approach was by creating a network of innovative co-learners where collaboration takes place regularly, Ferriter (2009), is able to experiment with digital connections without ever meeting other teachers in person. Not only is this beneficial for students and teachers all over the world, but also simple. What I found was unique and useful was the worldwide collaboration that helps teachers explore skills and dispositions that assisted with the network cooperation by creating shared content.
Bullying occurs every day due to social pressures, cultural insensitivity, and learned behaviors during formative years, and therefore is a pervasive issue that affects both the bully and the bullied, causing self-esteem issues, mental health problems, delay of social skills, and should be addressed and prevented by parents. Bully is a very widespread problem and affect many individuals, especially students. One out of every five students report being bullied (Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center, 2016). Victims must learn to stand up for themselves. Consequences need to be required when it comes to bullying.
Online learning in higher education institutions has become a boom in the last years. It is a tool for non traditional students juggling with several responsibilities wanting to pursue an education with time flexibility. More students are enrolling in online courses and universities are looking for ways to engage students in an online environment. However, the current online platform seems to have several issues. For instance, communication between students and professors is often lost in online learning.

“The researchers assessed, after taking childhood hardships or psychiatric disorders into consideration, whether bullies, victims, or those who were both were more prone to developing psychiatric disorders as young adult”(P.5.) “Effects of Bullying Don’t End when School does” is a useful source because it has an over view of all the categories of bullies. It shows how each one affects the other and how much long term damage is done. Also, research has shown that the psychiatric outcomes didn’t differ significantly from being bullied one time or multiple times. Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. This only tells us that bullying can lead to difficulty that a certain children may experience and will have either short or long term problem. “Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents, but it has lasting, negative consequences and cannot simply be ignored.” Committee chair Frederick Rivera, MD.
Article Report “Single Parenthood and Children’s Reading Performance in Asia” is an article written by Hyunjoon Park. In this article, Park examines the gap in reading performances between 15-year-old students that live in single-parent families and, and compares them to other 15-year-old students in intact families. His study compares 5 Asian countries, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand, to the United States. Park wanted to know why the association between single parenthood and children’s education vary across countries. To answer this question, Park collected and analyzed data from the Program for International Student Assessment.

While bullying seems to be prevalent in every school, it is important that faculty, parents, and students are aware of how it can cause behavioral, psychological, and future family complications for the victim. One of the issues that will prevail when a child is being bullied is behavioral problems at home or during the school year. Students that are bullied have a lower attendance rate due to the fact that they do not want to go to school because of how they are being treated there (Feldman et al., 2014). Parents that were a part of a study done in New Zealand spoke about the experiences they dealt with during the time their child was bullied. They noticed their children would try to avoid
Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
However, I have seen loved ones suffer from bullying, and attended funerals of loved ones whom committed suicide. So, therefore, bullying has impacted this world in a negative way, which allows us to fight for the stop of bullying. Statistics of Bullying Bullying can start at any point of an individual’s life; however, children can be exposed to bullying at school, at home, or even in public. Many children whose parents have taught them about bullying, usually stands up for those who cannot.
Bullying is seen all over the world in every school. I believe that bullying should not be apart of our world. Bullying not only affects kids who are bullied but it also has effects on bystanders and the bully themselves. The one person it affects the most though is the person getting bullied. It can cause them to have mental, physical, school, and health issues.
Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
In addition, Mehta et al. (2013) found that when students perceive that bullying and teasing are widespread in their school, they feel less safe and become less engaged in their school experience. As a result, they have less commitment to doing well at school and they are less likely to participate in school activities. Victims report lower school performance and school attachment (Schneider et al. , 2012).When bullying and victimization are prominent features of the classroom environment it is evident that children are susceptible to having low academic achievement.
Bullying is defined as repeated oppression, physical or psychological of a less powerful individual by a more powerful individual, people or group. It consists of three main types of abuse which are physical, verbal and emotional. Bullying in schools is a common and worldwide spread problem that can have critical and negative implications on the general school climate as well as on the right of students to study in a safe and secure environment without fear. Many people believe that bullying is part of life, happens in all schools and so it’s not an issue to worry about and that it lets individuals know what life is all about as it toughens them but in reality bullying is a detrimental problem that affects most school going children and teenagers physically, emotionally and socially.
