The textbook reviewed was Pearson’s World History, The Modern Era, 2016 edition. The textbook and additional programs included were created through collaborative efforts between educators, social studies experts, and students (Ellis & Esler, 2016). The Hazleton Area School is a district that educates a student population of almost 10,900 students. The district employs more than 700 teachers (Hazleton Area School District, 2017). So needless to say the purchase of new text books at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school was an enormous undertaking and a relief for educators to be able to utilize an up to date textbook that incorporates technological opportunities for the student, bringing social studies into the digital era (Sedon, 2017). The activities, which are integrated in daily lesson plans take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes and encourage students to utilize their critical thinking skills by engaging in conversations, incorporate art by drawing what they have learned, and promote art of written expression by writing what they have learned contributing to their language art skills. Subject content is provided through differentiated instruction which can be learned by the exceptional learner, such as English language learners, special education students and readers that struggle by utilizing the audio support provided thorough the mastery system. With this system, students can listen to the entire text read to them with the online e-text. Vocabulary words are provided in the beginning of each lesson for students to identify the key terms in the text, search for their meaning in the glossary provided in the back of the book, and form an understanding of the words meaning which can lead to a higher comprehension of the subject content. The vocabulary words are also provided on the mastery system in English as well as Spanish. Once again for the English language learners, special education students and readers that struggle, an audio glossary defines key terms. Interactive primary source galleries throughout the lessons being discussed are provided and can be an asset for students who are visual learners to utilize by having direct interaction with images that are related to the subject content being studied. Social Studies is revived due to the concepts and content that Laurel Schmidt provides in Social Studies That Sticks. In this book, Schmidt provides a clear call for action to reestablish history as a course where humanity remains a central focus. The study of mankind should not be replaced with emotionless learning about dates, events, assessments, and memorization. In the first chapter, Schmidt makes it clear that history is a subject that demands the observation of its learners.

A study done by authors, Faye Mishna, Marion Bogo, and Jami-Leigh Sawyer, examines student interns and undergraduate student clients who utilized cyber counseling. They were asked to discuss the benefits and challenges that emerged from cyber counseling. The authors stated that the cyber world provides young people with unprecedented opportunities for communication with others both in and out of their existing face-to-face social networks (Mishna, Marion, and Sawyer, 2015). Research has shown that online therapies are more effective and satisfying than face-to-face therapy. Cyber counseling offers greater accessibility and flexibility.
