I was raised in a traditional Vietnamese household where the sharp, lingering taste of bitter melon was a treat, family was everything, and everyone spoke Vietnamese. However, I lived in a community where speaking English was the majority and I was very clearly, a minority. There were hardly any other people who spoke Vietnamese where I lived. David Sedaris’ short story “Jesus Shaves” is a humorous telling of an important message. While he makes the subject seem light, the overall message shows how communication and cultural barriers can prevent us from growing together as a society. He also shows how we do not necessarily try to understand other cultures and often give up in the process. By giving up we allow for our differences to continually divide us which causes ignorance and bigotry. The conflict of this story is language and cultural barriers. The climax of the story occurs when the protagonist discovers that he is faced with a cultural barrier and is unable to accept it. Foster’s How to Read Literature Like a Professor provides a new view on interpreting literature. In the novel, Foster identifies and analyzes common patterns, themes, and motifs found in literature, many of which are also present in Disney’s film, Maleficent. This movie showcases several of his ideas, including quests, flight, geography, and symbolism. These are only a few characteristics that shape the movie into an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience for the audience.

While reading Kathryn Walbert’s essay on primary sources I learned many important things. The first thing I learned was that primary sources are anything created for the purpose of studying that was created in historical times. The second thing I learned is that primary sources are important to read about because they are very important keys to what life was like in the past. This is very important because it gives you an in depth understanding of how life was and gives you more information on what you are trying to study. The third thing that I learned was that simply because something is made now from the historical time period doesn’t make that item a primary source. In order for an item to be considered a primary source, it has to be made during that time. This piece of information is very important because it can help distinguish between an authentic primary source and a false one. The last thing that Walbert’s reading helped me to understand about primary sources is that they are very important to historians because historians only rely on details that are left behind from the past. The movie tells about the changing life of an American man Todd Anderson after he traveled to India. We can see that the importance of slangs in communication in the movie. Although slang help to understand target language better, sometimes it can create obstacles in communication. We understood this situation better after watching the movie.

In the first argumentative paragraph of her work, Smith blatantly states the point as to why some libraries are of more popularity than others. In this argument, she states that a popular library is popular because it offers "an indoor public space in which you do not need to buy anything to stay". As this is what society generalizes the behavior of the upcoming generation as, it is only logical to assume the accuracy and reliability of this claim. In a such point, Smith is using reason to create a connection between his stance and what people as a whole generally believe in. In the areas of writing leading up to this claim within this paragraph, the author sets up a comparison between libraries deemed "neglected" and those considered "well-run".

The two processes I chose were sustaining and agonistic. These are the most interesting and important processes to me, and they also fit in well with the edits I made to my article. I can connect sustaining processes to the fact that Wikipedia edits are made less than once per minute, and agonistic processes to controversial conflicts of interest in the history of Wikipedia.

It is encouraged for students to learn foreign languages as it has numerous benefits. Most countries have introduced foreign language starting from the early age. Today, the high school graduates are required to study foreign language in schools as it becomes a requirement for them to graduate from certain college with minimum of two years of learning foreign languages. Hence, the students are encouraged to learn on other language.
