Created in 1981, this study has several implications for human addicts. It demonstrates the importance of support and a strong community around the addict during their treatment process. If placed at the Pioneer Treatment Center, Mikayla would be able to have the support of myself, my husband and our friends as she continues to focus on her sobriety. She would be able to work on having a positive, useful life, while gaining the support of loved ones as she finishes out court-ordered rehab and job training. I run a content business from home, so I would be able to visit as often or as little as the treatment center
The Era of Not So Good Feelings Many historians label the period after the War of 1812 as the “Era of Good Feelings” but it certainly did not seem that way towards many others. This so called “Era of Good Feelings” dealt with the extension of slavery and the differing views on that subject between the North and the South, the American System that helped the United States industrialize and expand but led the country from nationalism to new sectionalism views; thus causing tensions to rise. Slavery had been protracted since the 1600s and with the extension of slavery and many differing views from both the Northerners and Southerners, it became a huge issue. Northerners opposed the extension of slavery because of the 3/5 Compromise which provided unfair representation to slave states compared to the northern states.
Addiction can cause detrimental effects on individuals' mental, physical, and social well-being, leading to increased morbidity and mortality rates (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2019). Despite various interventions aimed at reducing the prevalence of addiction, the problem persists, indicating the need for more effective solutions. This essay proposes that the most effective ways to address the problem of addiction are to incorporate holistic and evidence-based approaches. Holistic Approach The holistic approach to addiction treatment focuses on treating the whole person, including their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
The hypothesis was deemed to have been supported by the findings. It all appeared to be usable and practical. Overall Impressions Comment on the article and its relevance to practitioners in the field. • This article is very relevant to practitioners in the field of counseling. Multicultural concerns have been increasingly relevant as demographics change and continue to increase.
There were many reasons for children to enter into the boarding schools. In some cases children were rounded up and transported to the schools without permission from their parents, some parents chose to send their children because of the lack of resources they had to care for the children, and still others thought that the education would be beneficial in the ever changing society. The reasons for sending the children were diverse. Towards the end of what is now called “The Indian Boarding school era” it was estimated that by 1931, two-thirds of Native Americans have attended a boarding school (Warne, & Lajimodiere, 2015).
According to Hays and Erford (2014), “Awareness of this model may help White counselor trainees reflect on their cultural identity development and the manner in which associated information processing strategies affect values, beliefs, worldviews, and interactions with clients” (p. 41). The Canadian Mental Health Crisis And The Organizations At Work Canada has numerous health benefits, however it also has the third-highest suicide rate in the industrialised world and spends only 6% of its GDP on mental health (Youth Metal Health Canada). In the following paper, we'll examine what mental health is and what two of the major organizations are doing to address it. Mental health is described by the Oxford Languages as "A person's condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being" (Oxford languages). Through the use of this knowledge, we can recognise that an individual's psychological well-being has an impact on their physical health and is crucial to understanding their current situation.
It becomes a part of them and they feel they require it to survive. Louie often headed down this same path, however he continued to trudge on because he believed “A lifetime of glory is worth a moment of pain” (35). With the same mindset, lives can be turned around and faced down a better path. Addicts must find hope in themselves to overcome their challenge and work towards a brighter

The majority of research and theories have been centred on the experiences and outlooks of white individuals, resulting in a lack of diversity within the field. Consequently, the field has been unable to effectively address the experiences and concerns of people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Thankfully, organizations and journals have been increasingly taking steps to counteract this historically dominant "white psychology." Organizations such as the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues and the National Multicultural Conference and Summit have been essential in promoting diversity within the field of psychology. These organizations offer a platform for researchers and practitioners from various backgrounds to collaborate on research projects and share their experiences and viewpoints.
Addictions are hard to overcome, but stripping away the inaccurate pretenses can aide in humanizing people once
It is a universally held beleif that addiction ruins lives. Affecting the young and old, male and female, and people from different ethnicities, cultures, and social brackets, addiction is widely regarded as a societal illness with no easy solution. A particularily damaging assumption is that a drug or sex addict, for instance, is the root cause of their own suffering. This can potentially lead to a chain reaction where the guilt placed upon a human being strengthens the desire to escape from said guilt. This is particularily damaging to a teenager, to whom an external stimuli is no longer required after a few years of guilt inflicted by their parents.
In the TED Talks video, Martin Seligman points out just how much psychology today is “not good enough”. By this Seligman means that psychologists have been primarily dedicating everything to addressing mental illness rather than the mental wellness of an individual. In order to address this issue, Seligman was one of the founders of “positive psychology” or the study of the strengths that an individual or community possesses to thrive for greatness. The positive psychology movement has grown, since first being introduced by Seligman, into its very own vast study. To gain a better understanding of the positive psychology movement, one must first understand what exactly is wrong with psychology.
When people are getting through hard times in their lives, it’s always better to think positive. An article by Dallas Morning News and a book by Gary Paulsen, has shown the power of positive thinking. Paulsen's’ book ‘Hatchet’ is about a boy name Brian Robeson, who survived a plane crash and how positive thinking helped him have hope that everything will be okay and how he will survive. In the article “Juvenile justice program teaches boys life lesson and accountability’’ it states how positive thinking has helped people with their life and characteristic.
PERMA model The PERMA model of Seligman (2011) suggests that people are most happy when they experience positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning and achievement. Therefore Seligman describes a multimodal construct for which happiness can be measured from these 5 components (fig.1). The PERMA model predecessor was the “Authentic happiness model” of Seligman, in which he first described happiness consisting of three components: meaning, positive emotions and engagement (Seligman, 2003). In Seligman’s recent PERMA model, he states that happiness is a multidimensional subjective construct build up out of the five components.
