Anthem or Lord of the Flies for Bio-Med Freshman Lord of the Flies is a better choice for Bio-Med students to read next year than Anthem. Lord of the Flies is a better book for students to study because it has a lot of symbolism that can be looked into as a class, it has a deeper theme than Anthem, and it has much more characters to study. One of the main things that is looked at when studying Lord of the Flies is the symbolism that it has. Almost everything in that book represents a deeper meaning in that book such as the conch representing order, or the beast representing fear. This is something that students can study in depth while talking to the class about what they think the symbols mean. Another thing that the symbolism in Lord of the Flies can do is teach people how to pick it out when reading something like a poem. Lastly reading a book with all these symbols could show someone symbols that work so they could become a better writer. The second thing that Lord of the Flies has over Anthem is that it has a much deeper meaning. In Anthem the majority of the characters are borderline emotionless which fits the story of the book, but is not as interesting to discuss. In Lord of the Flies there are many more characters, and no two characters are the same, which makes it interesting to discuss a character’s motives or how they’re feeling. This is especially good for Lord of the Flies since the characters can be used to emphasize situations.
