INTRODUCTION
An anti-dumping duty is a protectionist tariff that a domestic government imposes on foreign imports that it believes are priced below fair market value. Dumping is a process where a company exports a product at a price lower than the price it normally charges on its own home market.
DGAD (Directorate General Of Anti-Dumping And Allied Duties) is an Organization that aims to provide Trade Remedy Measures to the domestic industry for effectively competing in the domestic market against dumped goods and articles, by exporting companies and firms of any country, from any part of the world, under Customs Act and WTO guidelines through an institutional framework. Then ten products were allotted to each intern. For my ten products I found out when was the duty imposed, on which country it was imposed, and what the amount of duty imposed was. This was found out by studying the final findings of that product on the DGAD website. After that import data of each product was downloaded for five years preceding and five years succeeding the imposition of the anti dumping duty. The data was downloaded from WITS (World Integrated Trade Solutions) and an analysis was done. The unit value and its fluctuations were also observed by dividing the Trade Value of imports by the Quantity of imports. Along with that, the trend of imports from that country (on which the anti dumping duty was imposed) as a proportion of world’s imports were also …show more content…

The Embargo Act, “prohibited all vessels in the ports of the United States, except foreign ships in ballast, or with cargoes taken on board before the Notification of the Act, from sailing for any foreign port” (warof1812.net). However, this act, enacted in 1807, proved to only do more harm than good. Within a year of the Embargo Act, United States value of imports decreased dramatically. The value decreased from $138.5 million to $56.9 million. Also, the value of United States exports decreased.

1. Eighner’s attention to language in the first five paragraphs causes the reader to view dumpster diving differently than they normally would. By providing the reader with his own personal views of how he sees a dumpster diver, and the terms he prefers to use when referring to them, Eighner inserts a more positive perspective over dumpster diving. For example, Eighner “I live from the refuse of others, I am a scavenger” (Eighner 108). Eighner indirectly dismisses the typical negative ideas about dumpster diving and instead puts it in a more positive light.
The saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is quite known to everyone. Many people know and are aware of this saying, but may interpret it very differently. In the essays, “The Town Dump” and “On Dumpster Diving”, the authors, Wallace Stegner and Lars Eigner agree that some things people throw away do actually have value. Though the authors agree on the sense that “trash” may be valuable, and things should be appreciated, they agree for entirely different reasons. Wallace Stegner grew up in a young town named Whitemud, in which he described as exciting and full of wonder.
In addition to duty, imports may be subject to Sales and Use Tax or excise taxes. Duty rates can be a percentage of value or specific dollars/cents per unit. Duty rates vary from 0% to 37.5%, with the average duty rate being 5.63%
Eighner’s Dumpster diving is all about scavenging, trashes that seems to be more valuable that it seems. The author appeals to ethos, logos, pathos throughout the essay. Eighner had enough experience as a dumpster that he knew what was valuable and what wasn’t, so he would just take what has value and would leave the things that he thought was unnecessary, so he appeals to ethos in this. Now, talking about logos, eighner also uses this technique because in the essay he says that he can learn a lot about the person based on their trash, he could find bills, contraceptive, etc on dumps.
In Analyzing Parts of “My Daily Dives in the Dumpster” In the essay “My Daily Dives in the Dumpster,” Lars Eighner—an educated yet homeless individual—recounts his experience as a scavenger who seeks for his basic necessities in dumpsters. On his journey of survival in a penniless condition, Eighner has acquired important life skills and most importantly, gained valuable insights about life and materialism. Throughout his essay, Eigher employs deliberate word choice, a didactic tone, and a logical organization to convey that there is no shame in living “from the refuse of others” (Eighner) and to emphasize that materialistic possessions do not guarantee a fulfilled, happy life.
In the text "On Dumpster Diving," Lars Eighner gives us an inside depth of what it's like being homeless and having to dumpster dive for living. Lars Eighner shows how dumpster diving has become a full-time job because it's the only way he can survive. Eighner claims that dumpster diving requires a lot of effort, he made some rules that would help others in the same situation become more efficient and find supplies that are useful for their survival. Dumpster diving has helped Eighner realize that materialistic things aren't necessary and that you should live off necessity. Eighner used to invest on materials that weren't necessary, but dumpster diving has helped him find value in his life and it helped him realize that people need must be grateful for what they have.
One if the greatest advantage is transferring new technology between countries, which is incredibly beneficial for the development of nations. One of the biggest disadvantages is precisely when easy access to incoming technology is not allowed. Take for instance Ecuador, a developing country, which products cannot compete with those from developed countries in terms of quality, advanced technology, know-how, and price. In order to stimulate local consumption and decrease the amount of money transferred abroad, Ecuador’s government has set several policies, which has considerable effect on imports. Some of those policies are: imports quota and tariff safeguards.

PORTERS FIVE FORCES ANALYSIS - PHARMA INDUSTRY Using Porter's Five Forces we can analyse the scope of the pharmaceutical industry. It looks into five factors namely, competitive rivalry, threat of new entrants, threat of substitute products, bargaining power of suppliers and bargaining power of customers. " Competitive rivalry: The pharmaceutical industry is highly fragmented with almost 3,000 pharma companies and 10,500 manufacturing units. Due to increasing demand of high-quality drugs, low-to-moderate entry barrier to the new entrant, the presence of a number of large and small firm this market is highly competitive.
The food industry is expected to grow rapidly in the future due to improving lifestyle and rapid urbanization (“Global Fast Food Market”, 2017). With this potential demand created, KHC can easily capitalize the growing foodservice industry and tailor their products to the specific demographic (Bhasin, 2018). Another strong resource KHC can utilize is focusing on nutritious products. As the foodservice industry continues to grow, KHC should further explore on expanding its product portfolio to include healthier options. Natural and organic brands, as well, as small labels buying from local farms, have become an essential part of the consumer lifestyle (Tarkan, 2015).

There are many different approaches to development in which countries over the years adopted to further develop and grow their economy. Some countries adopted the approach of import substitution in which they try to decrease their dependency on other nations and protect and foster domestic small companies. The disadvantage for an import substitution based industry, ISI, is although it achieves growth it does so through a greater period of time. On the other hand, growth and development from export oriented industries, EOI, has greater results and is so much faster than import substituting industries. Examples of countries that adopted import based industries are countries of Latin America while countries that adopted Export oriented Industries are countries of East Asia.
