Today, anxiety is a common problem that college students face. Problems caused by the students’ peers, studies, and even their everyday lives are all factors that can result in one having anxiety or even worse, these problems can lead to one having anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are probably one of the most common or regularly occurring problems facing college students. This disorder can include phobias, feelings of insecurity, and even social anxiety, which drains one’s energy resources keeping the body in a constant state of stress. Because of this people may tend to become hot-tempered and somewhat unapproachable. Just like depression, panic disorders and anxiety disorder often run in families. As a result, genetics, biochemical and environmental factors may also be a reason for a student to have anxiety disorders.

According to Mr. Ebtehaj, yoga can be broken down into two parts, “…The first is composed of very physical and dynamic activities. The other one is a mental component.” For the first part of yoga, the physical and dynamic part, one does plenty of stretching and yoga poses. These poses can help stretch the muscles which in turn relaxes any stiff muscles in one’s body causing any accumulated stress to be released. According to Mr. Ebtehaj, zby doing yoga one will be able to learn to focus on one topic such as yourself or your body. By doing so one will be able to learn to focus one’s attention in the present, in one’s body and in one’s good feeling thoughts. For many decades, U.S. News and World Report has been a well known news source because of it’s impressive ranking and annual reports of colleges and graduate schools. Howard outlines what certain prestigious colleges around the nation are doing to combat the issue; such as Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia, as well as many state universities. She reiterates ideas like meditation, counseling and even playing with dogs that are helping students cope with stress and anxiety. In present times, we have been struck with the overwhelming epidemic of anxiety and depression. It has begun to be realized as an issue all over the United States and thousands of Americans are suffering from the disorders everyday. Although it takes on a harsh tone, out of the three satires chosen, “Panic Attacking Your Way to a Better Sleep” by Matt Ott is the most effective satirical piece because of the use of enumeratio, rhetorical questions, and apophasis, its paradoxical structure, and it’s ironic analysis. Depression and anxiety are very common mental illnesses but it is most prominent in college students because of the multitude of stress they endure. Depression and anxiety can lead to many serious and sometimes fatal health problems. Paying thousands of dollars a semester for unwanted stress and mental illnesses is simply not worth it. Additionally, before students even get to middle school, they are often already being asked what they want to be in life or what college they plan on attending. In the past, they experienced little stresses that came with growing up, but now they experience stress from the real world and it can be overwhelming. The stress in college is more serious than any they had experienced prior because it is a time that will define the rest of their lives. For many, this is the first time getting a loan, the first time having to care for themselves, the first time studying for massive exams, and the first time that their decisions will affect the rest of their lives. The main types of stress college students experience are financial stress, parental stress, class stress, social stress, and self-invoked stress.

Yoga and meditation could play a big part in your life a lot of people don't get that advantage of taking the class that I got to take. I never thought it would be something I'm really into and I think it's good for you just in general I would have trouble waking up in the morning so I would sun salutations to become more attentive then at night I would focus on my deep meditation along with my heart centering to bring my energy back down. Overall I think yoga has changed my perspective on how to look at situations and how to handle them, I believe it can do anyone good in their life, it can build a positive bond with your conscience and other people.
