AP English III proved itself to be a very challenging class, but throughout the semester, I greatly improved my writing skills and ability to comprehend and analyze pieces of literature. I believe that my writing skills have greatly progressed since the beginning of AP English III. Most notably, I learned to use word choices to my advantage and write in a mature and academic way in order to make my purpose clear and impact the reader with my words. I also learned another fundamental aspect of good writing; I learned to draw the reader in with an exceptional and detailed introduction paragraph, and that without this “fluffed up” paragraph, the writing to follow in the paper will lose meaning and importance. By analyzing the writing styles and purposes of many authors, I was able to further understand the many elements that make pieces of writing superior to others and apply these elements to my own writing. Along with analyzing authors’ writing styles and purposes, we were expected to be able to fully comprehend the novels we read and the deeper meanings behind the often simplistic writing that made up each novel. The novels that we read in AP English III, as a whole, have been my favorite when compared to the novels that I have read in other English classes. I enjoyed the simplistic, easy-to-understand writing styles of the authors we read, and I especially appreciated the deeper meaning behind the simple word choices and sentence structures. The novel that I enjoyed the most was Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell because I believe the purpose behind the novel was very important; Gladwell wrote mainly about the importance of life opportunities in becoming successful, and I found the novel extremely interesting. I was able to become a more thoughtful writer once I learned to analyze works of literature we read as a class, and I also really enjoyed the content of the novels that we read throughout the
His many rules for writing have brought him great success and have made him one of the best writers of his time. From this memoir, I was able to pick out bad writing habits I have, but I also noticed little things I do that can be stressed more to upgrade my work. With rules from symbolism to adverbs, this book could teach students the best techniques. To best explain King's writing suggestions, he included personal stories and humor to keep readers engaged and interested. The fundamental elements of the information shared in the Unit 1 reading assignment is a very sound advisement for academic or professional writing under any circumstance that an individual may encounter. Utilizing Microsoft Word or a similar application, avoiding slang and similar abbreviating techniques and not supporting your opinions with a reputable source document can cause problems at multiple levels in academic or professional writing (Bethel University, ND). It is my opinion that the tips provided in the Unit 1 Read section of this course demonstrate a very common sense approach to mentoring new students and writers concerning common oversights. Attention to detail and conformance to establish methods are always important while composing
This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.
Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. As an AP English student I am mainly interested in continuing to practice and develop reading and writing skills

Each essay I wrote took me several time to write, several drafts which show that I have improve every time I do the drafts to write a perfect masterpiece. I learned a lot of skills and techniques this quarter, which has helped me to improve and progress my writing skills for the future. I will remember the skills, techniques, and tips that professor gave us in this English class for my higher education. Writing is a language. If we take simple words and bluntly put the phrases into paragraphs, it defies the meaning of this broad dialect. I, Abigail Platon, will not only understand this odd, foreign language but make it my own while painting a picture with the power of correct grammar and lines of beautiful word choice. The only way I can find a gateway to this dream is through, one, hard work on my own and, two, in Temple City’s English Honors class. Through this program, I can achieve the goals I desire to complete, either in the academic year or the “foreseeable” future.
