Cost Effective Apparel Manufacturing – Buyers too can lend a gentle support !!! An article by G. Jayapal Nair

In the modern world, a fruitful association between apparel customer (buyer) and apparel manufacturer can be established only after many unrelenting interactions to match each others’ objectives on profitability . Benefits can be reaped by both parties after maintaining a long-standing relation of mutual understanding and trust . Apparel being an essential commodity for mankind and considering its ever increasing demand all over the world , it is disastrous if the relation breaks due to the lack of a win-win

The bulk production has to follow those extra operations subsequently . Moreover, many manufacturers are scared to discuss style simplification opportunities with buyers in order to make it easy for production. Hence, these non-value processes are to be performed unnecessarily by engaging workers for bulk production. While an expensive machines or folders lay idle as their gauges might not suitable ( maybe there is 1/8” difference in seam width!) for the approved style . It is a real loss maker to productivity of the manufacturer, with no gains to anybody !!
True , each manufacturer will have different machine skill or process skills which they only can brief the customers .
Supports from Buyer (Customer ) to the manufacturer: The buyer should allow the manufacturer to do a “style simplification study” based on their machinery advantages , process ideas considering the following aspects .
a) It doesn’t affect the fit, fall ,aesthetic or saleability of the garment
b) It doesn’t affect the product safety
American Apparel uses the design of its homepage to make a strong appeal to the emotions of its buyers. While the company sells to males, females, children, and animals, its website makes it clear that they are specifically targeting young women. The homepage exclusively shows pictures of young, attractive female models. These ads assert and illustrate the idea that if someone buys the American Apparel brand, they too can look like the models in the pictures. Obviously this isn’t a logical argument, but it is not meant to be.
The textile factories were an unsafe and unheathly place for working class families to work. These factories were unsafe for children to work because the factories would over work the children, give them a insuffient diet and the factories were filled with diseases. For example a testimony from Joesph Hebergram to the Sadler committee he said; ‘i have damged lunges. my lgs muscles do not function properly and will not support the weight of my bones... the doctor told me that it was caused by dust in the factory, from being over worked and a insufficient diet.
FSA Practice Essay: Clothing Over Time Clothing has existed in many cultures for thousands years, and clothes have advanced in their style and functionality over all of these years. From ready-made apparel used in the America Civil War to using computers to design clothes during the 21st century, clothing has come a long way from its origins. Preferences in clothing changed drastically as well, going from preferring style over comfort to comfort over style and back again countless times throughout the years. Overall, the evolution of clothing has been one of the biggest in terms of items for humans and will most likely grow even further into the future with new and better technology.
As industrial revolution came in, advanced technology were introduced to the world and it workers in factory were frightened by these technologies. All the easy work were done much efficiently by machines
I think that English textile factories were bad for the health of the working class families because in Documents A and C it says that Children were getting hurt constantly, were beaten, over worked, and never had time to eat In document C, John Barley was abused and when someone came to interview them, they had to lie about their treatment , he also worked long hours and their breakfast was very little. When Birley was abused, his boss thought he was dead. When he went to go hit Birley, he quickly put his arm up to protect his head and his boss hit him with all his might. John had A broken elbow and marks. He said “ I bear the marks, and suffer pain from it to this day, and always shall as long as I live…” They also never got fed properly
The evolution of fashion industry should be in trend with the technology developments. Technology is the driver of transformation supported by government incentives. The options could be as below • Fabrics used should be new high-tech. Some examples could be nano-tech fabrics and programmable clothing, use of biodegradable non toxic spray-on clothing • Clothes for each could be designed using 3D body scanners which will allow people to “try on” clothes in virtual mirrors and interactive screens • Switching to a “low-carbon” economy based on renewable
One of the possible solutions to the above issues is to continue with the Product Lifecycle Initiative, but with a refined scope. As proposed, Patagonia might repair any garments regardless of their brands. Such services may benefit its competitors at the expense of Patagonia’s profits as it will incur extra cost to boost repairing capacity. Therefore, Patagonia may consider to provide such services to other brands only when they agree to pay a price for it. Also, outsourcing the repair services to reliable and high quality provider can keep their repair cost at a low level.
In order to explicitly analysis the clothing industry, emphasis must be laid on Textile
On the other hand the fact that Zara produces the remaining 40% internally, is a strong asset, providing better control, and short lead-times. Finally the fact that Zara owns 450 workshops were garments are to be sewed is a major asset ensuring quality. Another important asset in terms of production, is the technologies involved, for instance the cutting machines, to minimize waste (Ferdows & co. 2014 p9), used in combination with the last-final hand-made sewing. The ease of the connection between the production center and the distribution center is also an important time-saver element, and therefore
This is also helpful to develop fashion-oriented products, which have a shorter time to
