Apple is the third largest mobile phone maker in the world and also the largest publicly traded corporation in the world by market capitalization. Apple recorded profit of $18bn in the 1st quarter of 2015. It now has $178bn cash in the bank. In the last quarter, Apple reported:

• 21M iPads
• 5.5M Macs
• $75B of total revenue
• $24B of operating income
• 500M visitors to Apple retail stores (physical and online)

EXPANSION INTO NEW PRODUCT LINES
Apple has always had innovation as its core competency. It conceptualizes gadgets that could simplify and at the same time raise the standard of quality to its customers. Apple is known for high end products that ensure quality at a price. It could further look to innovate and come up with products in the mid price range segment.
Apple is already looking to expand into newer product lines apart from its existing lines of business. It is looking to launch the Apple Watch. Apple Watch is a high end premium Smart Watch that Apple has announced. It will have a number of features ranging from calling, messaging to fitness tracking. It can also be used as a music player and can be used to make online payments. It will be a high precision watch that will provide the user high levels of accuracy. Apple should also keep some of the features of this new statement watch in the wraps so that their competition doesn’t get enough time to come up with something similar, thereby not compromising its competitive advantage.
