It was in a small village in Ethiopia, East Africa that I was born in. My parents grew up in a countryside where there were no educational opportunities. For their children’s sake of schooling, my parents moved to the small town where I was born in. Throughout my educational path in Ethiopia, I participated in the science club which offered community services. One of the activities of the science club that I was part of was providing social

Watching people pass away from infections that can be healed by simply keeping their hygiene is a pain. I started to acknowledge my neighbors on how they could prevent themselves from illnesses. Though I wanted to help the community, I could not do anything that can cut down the number of people’s deaths.
Being enrolled in a natural science stream at my high school exposed me to scientific findings concerning on how to prevent people from diseases. Over the years, my interest in medical fields developed. After I came to the United States, the vast educational opportunities led me to join Montgomery College, Maryland in spring 2016 by majoring in life sciences. For the two and half years that I have been in the United States, I have engaged myself in various STEM activities that can upgrade my knowledge in medical studies. I am On RAMP to STEM scholar, a STEM community at Montgomery college. In this program I have learned about the disciplines of computational biology, including mathematical modeling and bioinformatics. Through the ON RAMP to
I knew that I wanted to pave the way for candid treatment and diagnosis of patients worldwide. In the process, I became intrigued with experimentation and learning to comprehensively understand the nature of Science. Indeed, my intent to pursue an education in Clinical Laboratory Science was influenced by my eagerness to learn the mechanisms that controlled cell behavior. Furthermore, I was inspired by the idea of becoming a diligent healthcare professional. My ambitious spirit led me to furthering my education and earning a Bachelor's in Biology at Dillard University.

Medical college personal statement writing don't drift endlessly hopping starting with one subject then onto the next. Rather, they revolve their personal statement writing around one focal topic. I have always had the desire to find a career that enabled me to help others improve their quality of life. Growing up with my father as an elementary school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the positive influence you can have on a child’s life, as well as their future. He always stressed that each student is an individual, not just a number. Early on, I learned that every child is far more than their standardized test scores. Even though I felt the draw to work with children, I knew that little reward came from the hard work of being a regular classroom teacher.
I have been surrounded by books all my life, that makes me one of the lucky ones as I developed an appreciation for books, information, and stories at an early age. Birthdays, Christmas, every holiday was an excuse for my grandfather or another relative to give me a book. My room contained multiple book shelves that needed frequent weeding, due to the lack of space for newer arrivals. I believed, due to my love of reading, that I was meant to become a writer, and some writing awards in my high school years supported that. However, four years of getting my Bachelor degree in English (with an emphasis in Creative Writing) only taught me that I love books and that I am an excellent tutor to my peers and children.
Music has been my passion for a long time; I play violin, piano, guitar, and sing. However, I never really sang until freshman year. It was 9am on a cool day in June and I was sitting alone at home. I reckoned all my eighth grade friends were busy enjoying their time with their families. My mum, a doctor at the local hospital, was on duty that day.
During my undergraduate years of college, I was able to further satisfy my curiosity in regard to the problems the modern day healthcare system faces and how it functions with these challenges. I was able to shadow medical professionals in the clinic and hospital settings. This opportunity allowed me to witness medical care from an inside perspective and learn first-hand about the functionality and daily operations in medical settings. The providers demonstrated that quality care is provided by treating the patient on a personal level. Each health professional, whether their role was directly or indirectly interacting with patients, exemplified the care and compassion given to each patient as though they were their own family.
Determination, structure, and strong relationships with family are all values of German culture. Indeed, because I was raised in a German household, those exact values have shaped me into who I am today: a young, passionate woman with a vision for her future. However, in my youth, I never anticipated the influence family would have on my educational and career goals in business. Throughout my childhood, my parents stressed the significance of schoolwork and discovering new crafts equally.
Throughout my life, I have been opportune to study in Korea, the United States, and China. This international exposure contributed immensely to my perception of the human race. I began to develop an appreciation for the diversity that led to an open-minded perspective on the world. As my worldview broadened, I developed a curiosity in why people did what they did. Thus, I am keen to further my knowledge on different societies and their interaction with one another to solve this fundamental question.
For more than fifty years, my grandfather ( an activist and leader in education) has worked closely with Presidents and secretaries of the department of education to ensure the education of millions of students. His work led him to fund universities and schools in the Dominican Republic. He was the voice of millions, at a time where protesting for one’s right could lead to incarceration or death. His passion for education and the well-being of his fellow citizens was what inspired me to a career in education. Thus, obtaining a Master degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Boston University will further my knowledge of the required leadership qualities, specialized and research skills so that I may ultimately become a leader
I am interested in applying for The John and Margaret O'Connell Memorial Scholarship for University of Massachusetts Amherst students who are residents of Norwood. I have decided to attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst because of the amazing musical opportunities they have to offer. I am extremely interested in participating in all of the ensembles at the University of Massachusetts Amherst such as the Minuteman Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble and the Orchestra. I plan to major in Music Education in the fall of 2016, and I intend to obtain a master’s degree in this field.
While doing my undergraduate studies in Psychology I got the opportunity to meet many great professors that helped me to become the graduate student I am today. During my first year in The University of Puerto Rico I took an advanced literature course with a brilliant professor that could analyze any story in a manner that was not only understandable but also interesting. I was mesmerized, but not by her knowledge but by the teaching methodology she employed to project that knowledge. I ended up taking three more courses with her that led to the development of a great friendship that I cherish to this day. Throughout my undergraduate years I had the privilege of meeting several professors just like her that influenced my personal and professional
We, as individuals of the human race and society are curious, inquisitive, and adventurous beings. We are constantly innovating and exploring new options on all fronts of academia, science, religion, and industry. We often stumble at times, yet overall due to competition of ideas we still prevail. My personal curiosity of exploration is in the field of Health as I seek to discover a solution to preventing illnesses before they start by focusing on children because what’s better than fixing the source of the problem by starting at the core of it all. I have been interested in the medical field for a few years now, particularly the the School of Nursing at George Mason University.
Throughout my junior year in high school, I encountered several opportunities to work towards both my academic and personal goals of helping others. I attended the Nova Southeastern University Achieve in Medicine program, which is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions. While in this program, I collaborated with doctors who help improve health in developing countries. For example, one project helped countries have access to optical examinations using 3D printed eye testing tools, which requires knowledge of all areas of STEM. My time there demonstrated to me the need of immersing students in STEM education to successfully take part in the medical
My high school mentor, Troy Jackson, shocked all of Colorado his junior year when he took home first place at DECA Nationals in his first year of competition. Troy stood for everything that I aspired to be: calm, personable, and daring. Following in his footsteps, I joined DECA my junior year and developed a passion for business management and global economics. When it came to deciding which colleges to apply to, Troy was the first person to tell me that staying in Colorado would be the simple and fulfilling route. While I was tempted to accept his advice at first, I knew that there was a part of me that wanted to live in an unfamiliar and exciting city—deviating from my mentors path.
Education of adults on topics relative to their way of life can save lives as well. It is in this way that education reduces fertility rates and maternal deaths and combats HIV and AIDS (“Benefits of Education”). Another illustration lies in Zambia. Because of the education of health workers local to their communities, in the last six years, deaths from malaria dropped by sixty-six percent. “The same approach has halved malaria deaths in Ethiopia in just 3 years” (Education Counts 27).
