We, as individuals of the human race and society are curious, inquisitive, and adventurous beings. We are constantly innovating and exploring new options on all fronts of academia, science, religion, and industry. We often stumble at times, yet overall due to competition of ideas we still prevail. My personal curiosity of exploration is in the field of Health as I seek to discover a solution to preventing illnesses before they start by focusing on children because what’s better than fixing the source of the problem by starting at the core of it all. I have been interested in the medical field for a few years now, particularly the the School of Nursing at George Mason University. I find their perspective and innovations in the field to be correct in their observations and line of thinking. It is one of my aspirations to research this field more to get a greater understanding of medical procedures, which I would then use in the real world in a variety of sectors. The primary question I want to answer is how can …show more content…
All these questions will be answered during my freshman year at George Mason, as well as the study of children's health, which clicked with me immediately as the only medical philosophy compatible not only with my beliefs, but others as well because some argue that to solve a problem, one must start from the beginning. It was then I decided one of my primary goals in life should be to explore the philosophy further and continue its applications to modern day issues and to help further answer my basic questions on how to innovate modern pediatric divisions in hospitals and how to give people the most possible care and to minimize the size and scope of the population becoming

I chose TTUHSC SOM because of the ability to learn medicine in a place that values the art of patient care in its foundation as well as the ability to do anything I hope to do in medicine guided by the strength of its mission and the care that TTUHSC SOM provides for its students. I would like to conduct my medical career in a setting that converges between urban and rural settings. My parents brought their strong work ethic from Ghana, cultivated on their family’s farms, to Austin, Texas where it was critical in encouraging my own desire to work in close contact with a diverse population of patients. My experiences in the communities I’ve lived in and health care have provided me with the insight to work within both types of areas. My most prominent experiences in health care have come from working in clinics that serve underserved populations.
Professional Association Membership Professional nursing organizations, such as the American Nurses Association (ANA), are dedicated to supporting the field of nursing and advocating for nurses all across America. Nurse Practitioner are registered Nurses who serve as primary and specialty health care providers under a physician. Much like a geriatrician, Gerontological Nurse Practitioners work with elderly patients, diagnosing illness, conducting exams, and prescribing medication. (“Geriatric Nurse…”). These type of nurses work at nursing homes, with home healthcare services and in hospice facilities, or run your own private practice. A geriatric nurse work with finding illnesses and diseases, prescribing medication and therapy, routine check-ups and screenings, etc…etc.

First, we are clinicians to which these patients seek for our expertise to address their health problems. When I began my journey in search for a secondary education that would fulfill my desires I did not know where to begin, but I did know one thing: I wanted to get out of state. I was ignorant and believed that I was too good for the state from which I was raised in; I wanted to leave everything behind and see what the world had to offer. I kept this mindset for months upon months until my worrying parents finally managed to coax me into looking within Illinois for my education--it is at this point where I would stumble upon Illinois State University. I had heard multiple friends express their interest in ISU many of whom would call dub it their dream school. By researching ISU further, all of my misconceptions about in-state schools were dispelled.
The world today as we know it is developing constantly and changing frequently. Healthcare is evolving, and practices are expanding. Nurses like myself are continually seeking education and desire to practice at the most advanced level. Doctorally prepared nurses have become more well known, and have increased the scope of practice for advanced practice nurses in an extremely positive way. Doctorally prepared nurses are known as Doctors of Nursing Practice (DNP) and are often notable for being high quality and cost-effective health care providers.
Many nurses do not get involved in health care policy even though the nurse should. Most nurses do not know much about health care policies, some view it as “foreign and complex” (Falk, 2014, p. 203). I consider myself one of the nurses that do not know much about health care policy and I am one of the nurses that do not get involved in health care policy. I do not get involved with health care policy because I was never taught about it, so I do not want to get involved in something that I do not know much about. I look forward to learn more about health policies and becoming more involved in health policies.
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
It took me a while to find nurses that wanted to participate in my interview. I was able to interview 2 nurses at a medical center because this week at my private practice, with the help of an Ecuadorian Audiologist who has ABR/ASSR system, we had a Microtia week from all over Bolivia and one of the mother’s was a nurse assistant, she made the contact with her boss and I was able to interview both, yesterday. (NP: nurse practitioner and NA: auxiliary nurse- MARIA) 1) What motivated you to become a nurse? NP:
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect. Nursing is giving of yourself to the care of people and community, while expecting nothing in return. It is having compassion for people and their health, being a humanitarian, and making sure patients receive the best care possible. Nurses must also deal with families of patients with gentleness and kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also.
As a potential member of the medical community of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, I strive to further and advance the research and medical practices accredited to the university, and to convey these achievements in the field of medicine to communities in Ohio that desperately require them. I wish to utilize the skills that I will acquire at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine to serve the healthcare needs of the community that has so far supported my endeavors into the field of medicine. Having spent many years of my undergraduate studies in the Cincinnati area I have made great strides in getting to know the residents there and some of the healthcare issues they face. Using my education from the University Cincinnati
