The alliances and the new system they imposed did have a drastic effect as to why the war broke out. Countries that were not involved in the first place ended up fighting a war that was not theirs. Several alliances were signed by countries during the 1879-1914, these were important and defined the nation’s fate because if one country declared war first this inevitably meant that their ally had to declare war as well. (rhetorical question) • Austria/Hungary, did not like Serbia’s response to her ultimatum, declared war on Serbia on 28 July 1914. • Russia, bound by treaty to Serbia, put together an army to defend them.
When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia was ready to support them with their mobilization plans. During this time mobilization was considered an act of war. The Russian mobilization plans were based on a war against Germany and Austria-Hungary. So when the Czar ordered a partial mobilization of the Russian army against Austria-Hungary, they could not partially mobilize due to the plans. Czar Nicholas II ordered his army to continue with the full mobilization, even though he knew Germany would consider this as an act of war.
The growing Serbia was a threat to Austria-Hungary, since it was easier for Serbia to attack Austria-Hungary after Austria-Hungary’s colonization of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is one of the Slavic groups with Serbia. Moving on, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, with his wife, was visiting the capital of Bosnia to check on army exercises in
So, in 1914, Europe explodes into war, and Woodrow Wilson has to make a decision about what America is going to do. And his decision is to ask the American public to remain neutral in word as well as deed. And he has domestic reasons for doing this - the American opinion is divided, and he doesn 't really have concerns about American security. The war seems very far ways from American shores. But the big question that he has to answer is "what does it mean to be neutral?"
Britain, Austria, and Russia joined forces to prevent the French expansion into the Near East. The third coalition composed of Britain, Austria, and Russia was created in 1805 to stop Napoleon's expansion to in Belgium and to strengthen Prussia. The Continental System created by Napoleon made the European countries resent Napoleon's control thus they buy smuggled goods. To show hate against this system, Russia withdrew from the Continental System. These three coalitions and Russia's reaction to the system emphasized the disagreement of the European nations to the Napoleonic Empire.
It was a good excuse for them to join the war. Red tried to deal with uprising, but white had reasons that they needed war and win in the war. There are few reasons of victory of Red in Russia Civil war in 1918. The reasons include their specific goal, controlling of army, more systematic than White, and brilliant and great leader. One of the biggest reason of White’s defeat was they weren’t united as Red.
Franz Ferdinand wanted to replace the dual monarchy and create a government that Serbia would be represented with Austria and Hungary. Many Serbians liked the idea but Serbian nationalists did not because they wanted their freedom from Austria and Hungary. Serbians rebelled against Austrian rule in Serbia but they could not gain freedom from them. “Princip envisioned the death of the Archduke as the key that would unlock the shackles binding his people to the Austro-Hungarian Empire (Eye Witness).” He thought that it would free Serbia from the Austro-Hungarian Empire but he did not know that it would also spark the First World
French foreign policy during the First World War The First World War emerged from a series of events mainly the first and second Moroccan crisis of 1906 and 1911 respectively. This tested the alliance of France, Britain and Russia also known as the triple entente. During the first phase France suffered major losses in the Battle of Verdun as well as the Trench War. The Van Schlieffen Plan would have been successful had it not been for the measures France took in changing its foreign policy in the international system. France made promises to both the Italians and Serb-Croats in regards to Dalmatia disregarding the Austro-Hungarian territory.
When a country goes to war, it is assured that its allies will “have their back” and aid them when they need it. In the case of WWI, the same rings true. As soon as Austria attacked Serbia, Serbia’s ally, Russia did not hesitate to counterattack Austria. After that, Austria’s ally, Germany, declared war on Austria. In short, the allies of a country will not let a feud of two countries between those two countries.
They hated each other. So with the assassination of one of the Austrian royal member, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, This caused A-H to have a proper excuse to start a war. They actual had to start a conflict because if they ignore this assassination it would greatly injure their status and prestige as a great power. Prestige and status was important at the time, countries would want to compete each other, to be the most powerful nation in the European power. Because of its importance at the time, countries are forced to do action that was unnecessary and that would start conflict.
This was a large impact because a Serbian killed him forcing Germany to against Russia. Britain would help out Russia which lead to the Americans who would supply for both sides of the war early on. How this ties into the Americans is we provided the logistical side to the British.
