Argument Analysis: Day Away Programs

Imperialism is not needed in our modern world. United states should not dictate their values. We don’t take care of children seriously. We do things with military force. We don’t respect other and we keep creating enemies.

My passion for wanting to help those with disabilities and illness all started in high school when I started to work with the Special Ed program and help volunteer with the Special Olympics. I loved watching those kids laugh, smile, and have an amazing time. When I applied and got accepted into UNCW I started to look at the majors because I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. That’s when I came across Recreation Therapy and when I started reading into it I became very interested the field because it sounded exactly like something I would love to do.

Growing up in Hawaii, the idea of community was always such a fundamental part of who I was. I have never looked at it from the perspective of how it benefited me rather how it benefitted everyone around me. Everything I have done from joining local clubs that enriched the Hawaiian culture to volunteering with the west Hawaii special olympics program have helped me become the person I am today. My family has had a huge role in making sure that I am involved with the community. They passed down their practices in paddling, environmental conservation of Kealakekua Bay and encouraging the people who need it the most.

Child care is an industry that provides quality help to countless mothers and fathers who are in need of qualified, capable providers to take care of their children. Without child care providers, there would be less jobs and many stressed mothers and fathers. Being selected and serving in The National Honor Society would truly be a honor. Being selected into this program would be important to me because of the opportunities it offers. For my service on the Plunge, I first went to Our Lady’s Inn, where we talked to a woman working there, watched a video on their mission, and took a tour of the building. I then went to Grace Hill Preschool, where two girls and I helped out in a classroom. At Grace Hill we did a number of tasks including, helping them follow along in a book being read to them, playing on the playground and teaching and singing songs about daily tasks, such as tying their shoes, or packing their backpack. We finished the day at St. Vincent Depaul where we heard 5 women tell their story and experiences with poverty.

The city of Blueberry is in desperate need of help. Each day over forty people are killed. Most of these incidents involve innocent people who simply decided to take a walk around the neighborhood at the wrong time, or a child who decided to go the playground at the wrong time. Not only is the crime rate outrageous; the amount of residents living in poverty is also high. The education system lacks proper funds, and struggles to keep teachers in the area. “Merchants are afraid to open stores, and there is little outside development from major retailers or manufactures.” (pg.163) The residents of Blueberry may have lost all hope for change; however with this proposal I have a solution.
