There is no doubt that we live in a globalised world , a world where English is the most widely spoken language?; however , when it comes to teaching English internationally it carries with it education in British and American cultural studies . The controversy stems from the fact that each group of people views the issue from a different perspective . Some people argue that teaching American or British culture help students broaden their scope of knowledge of English language . Others , on the other hand , regard teaching English as a way of strengthening American or British culture domination over the host culture . As far as i am concerned , i strongly believe that students have the right to learn about both the language and culture of the target community , provided that culture does not affect their own culture .
Some people claim that teaching American or

Thus , teaching and learning a foreign language should not be confined to teaching of linguistic skills?. In other words, to communicate correctly and appropriately in English language requires knowing about the culture of that language?and , of course , without marginalizing the host culture . For example , English teachers shoud strike a balance between teaching their students about world cultures and preserving their own culture?. By including western culture in the textbooks , students will be able to make an objective comparison between western culture and their?s?.
With all these points in mind , as mentioned earlier , language and culture are two faces of the same coin?. Communication that lacks appropriate cultural content results in misunderstanding and miscommunication . Moreover, the learning of any language necessitates learning how to use the langauge correctly and appropriately according to the native speaker
Kindred Argumentative Essay Love is more addictive than drugs. It exploits a person’s weakness. Love consumes a person and opens the gate to a number of overwhelming feelings that wouldn’t open for anything else. It is uncontrollable no matter how hard a person will resist from it.
Argumentative/ Persuasive Essay Molly Killen March 29, 2018 “The starting point of all achievement is desire.” – Napoleon Hill. All states have a course standard to follow to set goals for teaching and learning (West, 2018). Teachers use these standards as a guide within their classroom to provide the best learning for their students.
Imagine being punished for saying one word or phrase in your first language that just comes natural to you. This is another example that makes the audience question their own beliefs on the “English only”
By having public schools taught in English, it diminishes and threatens the presence of other cultures. It is hard to grasp no question, but just by being the majority, in this case the Western European culture, we automatically discourage the use of, and ignore, any other different or less popular cultures. This is fundamentally unfair if culture is a primary good. This is what places those Aboriginal people in the minority category, even though they are still Aboriginal. In Canada, even though the Aboriginal peoples are in the minority, they were still present during the founding of Canada, which hold significant
Kindred Argumentative Essay Love is both uncontrollable and a conscious choice, meaning you’ll do anything to be with the person you love and deciding if you love them. In the essay, “The New Bathroom Policy at English High School”, Espada witnesses the hostile actions thrown to students at school who speak a language other than English. The students have spoken in Spanish to each other and the lunch people overheard them and automatically assumed that the students were talking unpleasant thoughts about them. They told the principal of the school and she agreed to prohibit Spanish at lunchtime. This shows that people don’t have the freedom to be able to speak their second language in public without wondering constantly if there would be any hostile actions towards them. I also believe that people shouldn’t be forced to learn English and they should be able to learn English when they want to.
American Voice Essay America is a place where many people can speak up about anything. Anyone can speak about what they want to change and this is called the American voice. Patrick Henry best represents the american voice in his speech,” Give me Liberty or Give me Death” by showing how people want to be free no matter what

Having the same language as others is something that brings people together-- whether it is around the dinner table, in an office, or in a grocery store. Language helps to bring people together and is a curator for community building. And in the eyes of many, this community that stems from a language is true, as long as the language being spoken is one that they prefer. For a long while there has been a “hierarchy” of language, and English sits a top of the food chain. When English is glorified, it is seen as the key to success and continuously other languages have been pushed out and looked down upon-- resulting in closed off cultures for others.
Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve been made fun of, or heard someone else being made fun of? I am sure the answer to that question is yes. Or maybe, you’ve insulted someone else without realizing the true meaning behind it? Ultimately, this is because language is more powerful than we think. Words and language can be used as weapons, and it may be hard for people to understand that certain words can be thought of as insulting to someone else but may not seem that way towards you.
