America is known as the country of the obese. People can’t resist the urge of going a day without having their snack jar being empty. The idea of going a day without buying anything sounds like a good idea on paper, but I believe that in reality this “Buy Nothing Day” isn’t going to accomplish anything for society. Furthermore, people are only going to “celebrate” this day once a year, which is not long enough to make a difference. People are also just going to continue their normal lives of overconsumption the following days, and I also don’t see a reason why overconsumption is necessarily a bad thing for America; we are after all a capitalist society that depends on a free market to provide for our American way of life First of all, people don’t change in just one day; change occurs through constant protests, meetings, and gatherings. Throughout history, we’ve seen multiple strikes and protests such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, where African-Americans stopped riding in buses as a fight against segregation. These people didn’t just go out for one day; they were out every day till they were heard and change was made. “Buy Nothing Day” will just be a one day type of gathering where people will share it on their social media. People are more than likely just going to stay home, watch T.V, maybe go outside and do a march about overconsumption, but it 's only going to be recognized as a one day stand. “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” is a famous saying that helps explain this
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
Decisions made in the 1850s ultimately decided the United States fate. From the election of 1856 to the Dred Scott case, the nation would become divided into two. The South was pro-slavery and supported the idea of slavery expanded into western territories, while the North opposed of the idea and was mainly against expanding slavery. Until the 1850s the nation barely balanced the slavery issue.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.

In the “Cost of Survival,” an argumentative essay, in which; voices the opinion of Theo Tucker, an individual that believes that some people “willingly put themselves into life-or-death situations,” (126) also he explains, how if these risky decisions end in needed rescue missions. Therefore, said people should pay for the cost of their rescues, because individuals that do things like “mountain climb and base jump, knowingly face danger.” (126) The author stands on the side of the argument that, these rescue missions or “efforts, can cost a lot of money, and that “The adventurer should be the one to foot the bill” (126)
I find the notion that we should “occupy Black Friday””(Andrew Leonard’s “Black Friday: Consumerism vs. Civilization”). According to Leonard one act that a conscientious consumer could do would be a strike that would result in more layoffs, pay cuts, bankruptcies, and foreclosures. Walmart would take a hit of course, however, so would Walmart employees. NEED CITATION
