According to the U.S. Department of Education, an organization that promotes student achievement, stated, “In 2012, there were an estimated 1.8 million homeschooled students in the United States, which is an increase from 850,000 in 1999, when estimates were first reported”. Homeschooling is the process by which parents choose to be the teacher for all of a child’s educational growth in the home, ultimately pulling a child out of public school, another version of schooling, from which the child learns a government approved criteria for their age from an appointed teacher. To begin, a child 's education is not being rewarded or effected positively by choosing to homeschool. Calvert Education, a homeschooling organization, stated, “Parents must teach a broad range of subjects. Greater freedom and flexibility requires more time and responsibility from the parent”. In contrast, homeschooling is beneficial because of its impact on a child’s education and the flexibility that comes with it.
