Some peoples argue that having some fortifying experience is conducive to a teenager’s learning and self – development. Others, however, prefer the traditional way, committing to attend college after graduation as the wise choice. To initiate, the concept of “gap year” is known as a time out to travel between life stages.
Ever since I entered ICU, it is one of my goals to be an exchange student, because I want to spend one year in other country to study in different language during my college life. In that way, I can broaden my mind and learn different ways of thinking in that country. Every time I travel other countries, that experience makes me feel like I can see many things clearer than before. Also, by changing my environment for a year, I want to learn many things that I cannot learn in Japan. The experience of living in other county for a year will be a good chance for thinking about my future and myself.
In college, a student can learn more than just an education. They can learn to be more independent at school. One way college students learn to be independent is through managing time. Many high school students might get their time managed by their parents, such as when to wake up, when to eat, and when to get homework done. Once in college “you can no longer rely on your parents for structure, rules, or academic motivation”(Klein and LaPolla).
Students could benefit a lot from having an after school job, but an after school job has many negative effects too. People may say that after school jobs helps a student gain experience and that they could earn a decent amount of money, but why should it be “After School”? From peer advisers to tutors to assistance with time management, an Academic Learning Center is a valuable resource for the struggling college student. The comprehensive learning of higher education is unlike the shallow education of high school. Therefore, by visiting campus learning centers, struggling students can better understand the quality of work that is expected from
Extended Education Most students and teachers will cringe when hearing the term “year round schooling.” Before cringing and criticizing; students, teachers, and parents/guardians should know exactly what year round schooling is and how it will benefit not only the students but also the teachers. School will still be in session the normal 180 days. The big difference is the new schedule. The year round school calendar will provide students and teachers with more frequent breaks but will not give the traditional ten full months of summer vacation. Studies show that students are more likely to attend school when there is a break coming around the corner.
A Student in a Community College Basic Skills Program I think the most important reason to go to school is to have the back ground needed to receive a job that can help you build a financially secure future. Most well-paying jobs will look at your educational background so it is important to go to school. I think that the reason for being does change throughout your school years. In elementary school your parents make you go, but you are also having fun. During the middle school years it gets a little harder, but hanging out with friends makes it worth it.
Anna Gales Professor Rose Neal English Composition I 8 September 2017 Home Away from Home College is seen by many incoming freshmen as a new and unique experience. The transition from high school to college is intimidating enough on its own without the added stress of leaving most of what young adults know to be school. Students often seek familiarities in their surroundings especially if this was their first big move from home. Dr. Mark Gales, my father and a professor of Pharmacy here at SWOSU, has been my reason for visits up to campus in the past. Years of my father’s faculty basketball games and other fall trips to help siblings settle into dorms left me with the memories but nothing concrete to hold on to.
