“And how is that going to be paid?” This question is asked multiple times throughout the day to and by everyday Americans. On November 12, Fox News Business anchor Neil Cavuto asked this very question to Keely Mullen, the leader of the Million Student March, a movement that demands: tuition-free public college, cancellation of student debt, and a $15 minimum wage for all campus workers. The Million Student March held a “national day of action” on November 12, 2015, advocating for their 3 key demands. To gain a better understanding of the motivation, purpose, and financial plan, Mullen appeared with Cavuto for a 9-minute interview to tell every one watching exactly that. The Million Student March pushes for 3 unrealistic entitlements to be offered to Americans without veering toward socialism and keeping the middle and upper class tax payers financially stable. The voice of The March tells us that the one percent of people in society are hoarding the wealth and causing a catastrophe that students are facing, and this one percent is going to pay for all of the benefits the students feel they do not want to pay for themselves. To be considered a part of the “one percent,” the household income must reach at least $521,411. (U.S. Global Investors, 2014) The taxable income rate for more than $464,851 is $129,996.50 plus 39.6% the amount over …show more content…
(Fight For 15, 2015) The claims made by Mullen regarding this component of her argument are seldom mentioned, because it is a direct benefit to campus workers, not college students like herself or graduates paying off loans. Nevertheless, the Million Student March stands by this demand and will also burn a hole in the United States’ job

Kayla Webley argues something different in her piece “Is Forgiving Student Loan Debt a Good Idea?”. When reading Webley’s piece she made me rethink my opinion behind student debt. By using her knowledge, logos, and pathos she was able to write a compelling piece. In a debate there is always an audience to watch.
The 15 dollar minimum wage is a commonly debated topic in American politics and is quite controversial because of its unknown outcome if implemented. Many believe raising the minimum wage would cause more harm than good. Those opposing the $15 minimum wage must attempt to convince upper, middle, and lower class Americans through the use of commonplaces, inductive logic, and a deliberate argument that raising the minimum wage would cause massive job loss, increased dropout rates and encourage companies to outsource production. Making an efficient rhetorical strategy to convince the target audience against the $15 dollar minimum wage will take different strategies depending on which audience group is being addressed. Through past attempts, the
In William Warren’s political cartoon, “Minimum Wage Spike,” published in 2014 by Net Right Daily, powerfully depicts Warren’s viewpoint of President Obama’s attempts to raise minimum wage from the average eight dollars to a higher ten to fifteen dollars per hour. Although the cartoon is two years old, the context of this cartoon is still debated and relevant because it demonstrates the effects of raising minimum wage and the effects it will have on employees. The cartoon contains an arrow that represents the hike in minimum wage, or as Warren refers to it as a “spike,” that is impaling through a man with a label that reads “500k Jobs.” William Warren effectively discredits Obama’s proposal through the use of symbolism and analogy that attempts
students would try their hardest but still wouldn 't get acknowledged for the hard work they’ve overcome. Now they have to struggle to find a job that at least pays good money to support a family. People are suffering just to support their family and have the necessities they need. No matter how hard they try to succeed, it’s not good
Did you know that Canada just quit making their penny? (Source 1) They aren't the first of many countries to have made this decision. Whether or not to keep the penny is a surprisingly heated debate. The penny should be removed from American currency for a variety or reasons, it costs too much money to make, it wastes money, and plenty of other countries have gotten rid of it and they're fine.
Action War Room/Think Progress, April 4, 2014 gives ten reason for raising the minimum wage such as, it will put money into hard- working Americans, reduce income inequality, get people off of food stamps, save the government, would not cause prices to go up, improve people’s economic security, businesses would also gain, children would be secure, will left people out of poverty, would not hurt job creation, and would help people support themselves instead of relying on the government and hand-outs. In a State of the Union Address January 20, 2016 President Barack Obama express to congress the importance of raising the minimum wage for all hard-working Americans when his said to Congress and I quote “Of, nothing helps families make ends meet like higher wages…and to everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: If you truly believe you could work full-time and support a family on less than $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest-working people in America a raise.” and since 2013 18 states have already passed laws to increase the minimum wage, helping millions of
As a college student, I understand the struggle of debt. I come from a family with low income. Growing up poor, the burden of working and going to school had its hardships and took a large toll on me. Now that City College of San Francisco gives free tuition it has helped. I’m still struggling, however, not as badly as last semester thanks to free college.
The financial burdens that college leaves with the families and students needs to be addressed as student loans keep racking up over time. The cost of tuition for colleges has risen drastically over the years and has bounded students to only one or two college choices to choose from and at some points tearing away the opportunity to go to their dream college. However, one reason college has driven up in price is because the value it brings with it’s degrees, but it should not limit those who can not afford the worthy degree. College should be cheaper as it will ease financial burdens and broaden the choices of those wanting to attend
America today is faced with its fair share of problems. There are low employment rates, debt, and inflation everywhere, riddling the economy with issues. There is absolutely no reason that any American citizen should want to pile upon the problem. Yet, some believe that it could be done by raising the federal minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour. Fortunately, history, economics, and common sense prove the minimum wage raise proposition wrong.
Economics 2010: Introduction to Microeconomics October 22nd, 2015 Bonus Assignment: Relating a News Article to a Class Topic Jordan Loder 201213535 Minimum Wage and Living Wage: Equivalent or Not? The recent election and the raise of minimum wage in several provinces across has sparked a lot of discussion on the topic of minimum wage, a topic covered in our course in chapter 6. More specifically, the classic question of “is minimum wage a liveable wage?” has been addressed several times in news media. For example, this was addressed in a recent news article by the Globe & Mail in a piece called Minimum wage increases reignite livable income debate by Richard Blackwell and Tavia Grant.
However, many companies take advantage of this, inflating the prices of tuition, medical supplies, and food and water. Money may be what makes the world go round, but America has planted its seed in a bad orchard, and has sprouted an evil tree which is rotting the nation down to its core. We have built a reliance on money to take care of us, but much of the nation does not have the necessary funds to go to college and get the supplies which secure their health. My vision is one which makes America the great nation it should be; one which allows for equal opportunities to students, patients, and employees by eliminating the corrupt financial system which has become the norm in the United
May it please the court. This is my co-counsel Jason Edwards, and I am Alex Harb. We have proved that there is beyond a reasonable probability the outcome of the Defendant’s 1999 trial would have been different but for counsel’s errors. We as the defense have had the burden of proof placed upon us, and we have met the burden of proof. The burden of proof demands that we give light to the facts, and show that beyond a reasonable doubt, that, but for the previous counsel’s errors, the defendant would have been found “not guilty”.
May it please the court? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, your honor, Devon Emerson is deeply in debt. On April 5, 2014 he observed a larger then usual offering at local the church of St. Francis De Sales. The deceased Louis-May Alcott took the offering home every Sunday, so he snuck into her house to steal the money. His aunt caught him.
