Four-day school weeks lead to a detrimental drop in student achievement, and a possible loss in school funding and can affect underprivileged students into performing less than their classmates. For these reasons, the four-day school week should not be implemented.
One of the many important reasons why the four-day school week should not be implemented is education. Education is being negatively impacted by four-day school weeks due to the lack of time to learn and the amount crammed into a school day. Education is a major part of the evolution and industrialization of our society. This is proven in the article “What do we actually know about Four Day School Weeks?” when it states that “while most districts consider the four-day school week for financial reasons, there are often little savings in the schedule change.”. Another article that also proves this point is “Four-Day School Week Overview”. It tells us that “Schools not meeting the minimum instructional time requirement will receive less funding from the state ” A Four-Day school week that gives us more free time is not worth gaining a little bit of money while risking losing funding. The opposing side would argue that the four-day school week allows students to have free time to spend on homework, with their families, or with activities. While this may be true, it simply doesn’t compare to the degradation in education it causes. Though spending time with you is important, education is the foundation of everything. Without education, our students would fail to get jobs and contribute to our society for the better. Another Problem with the four-day school week argument is its false claims. While many supporters of the four-day school week state that they have gained more family time, this simply can not be true for all. Most parents work 5-day school shifts meaning the extra day off for students will not help parents but burned them with watching their kids for one more
