Much of this transition involved the gathering of the Tenleytown community to fight crises or advocate for their neighborhood. Tenleytown citizens have fought against the relocation of the black Reno City community, fought for the rightful name of their Metro station, and fought against business and residential real estate development. Tenleytown residents have a shared history that has created a sense of place within their community, because they are willing to take action anytime Tenleytown or the community is threatened.

Her name is Arizona because the winter she was born, was the coldest winter on record for Montana, and her parents must have wished for warmer weather. Arizona’s life is not, nor has been, glorious. Furthermore while in the cell, they were only given bread and water once a day.

The term “safe space”, a supposed haven where students of minority and marginalization can feel free to express their ideas and be themselves has started a movement across college campuses nationwide. The newfangled movement is driven largely by students who wish to scrub campuses clean of offensive or discomforting topics. Safe spaces emerged during the post-Civil Rights era where women, LGBTQ, and racial minorities grew in presence on campuses; however, today they serve as refuges for like-minded people who don’t feel the need to explain or defend their personal beliefs.
