Even though there is enough food in the United States for everyone, some people are still struggling with food insecurity.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.” This quote is stating that everyone no matter how poor or how rich deserves a meal. Hunger is known to many people as being weak from the lack of food and craving food badly. Many people whether famous or not have tried to figure out ways to get rid of hunger but hunger exists all over the world. It would take many more people to join in on this issue to get it solved and to make sure it stays solved.

It is reported that the world population will reach 9.5 billion by the time we reach 2050, the world is on a collision-course with disaster if it refuses to change its path. Most of the world’s populations are built around dense cites with taxing infrastructures. Helping to overcome the massive obstacles in world food distribution it will take nations working together along with food conglomerates. Why should countries care, because it is the right and moral thing to do and without realizing it, we truly are in this together? The first question that needs to be asked is, what is hunger?
In the world, there are one billion people undernourished and one and a half billion more people overweight. In this day and age, where food has become a means of profit rather than a means of keeping people thriving and healthy, Raj Patel took it upon himself to explore why our world has become the home of these two opposite extremes: the stuffed and the starved. He does so by travelling the world and investigating the mess that was created by the big men (corporate food companies) when they took power away from the little men (farmers and farm workers) in order to provide for everyone else (the consumers) as conveniently and profitably as possible. In his book Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System, Patel reveals his findings and tries to reach out to people not just as readers, but also as consumers, in hopes of regaining control over the one thing that has brought us all down: the world food system.
