We live in a world where marine life eat our trash, while at the same time, people go days without having something to eat. It is a sad but devastating reality. Everyday the world’s oceans continue to become a universal junkyard. Marine pollution continues to grow exponentially on the one resource that separates us from the rest of the universe. On land, there is a different problem. Hundreds of thousands of people go to bed every night without food. We not only want to fix both of these issues, we need to. BlueGold is our non-profit organization that helps homeless people living near coastal cities receive food while collecting trash from the beach. Our goal is to not only clean up the ocean, but also help feed those who go hungry due to monetary incapabilities. Thus, we are able to tackle two ongoing problems in the world today, hunger and marine pollution.
Across the globe humans face poverty, unemployment, natural disasters, and other life-altering problems. The thing that those problems have in common is causing the pain and misery of food not being on the table. Many people and organizations are fundraising and collecting donations to help those in need. Programs educate and teach people to create self-sustaining food sources. However there is one very powerful and reputable group that has the most power to help the cause of hungry children in the United States and that group is the federal government. The United States government does amazing things day in and day out and the one thing that they do very well is providing hungry families with children food to get them through rough times.
Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that provides food and services to people each year. Together this network is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization. Recently, more families and individuals begin to struggle with hunger due to the cost of living increasing and income from employers not being sufficient enough to feed and take care of a family. Price and income shifts can radically impact the poor and hungry.

People around the World face these problems everyday. 328,000,000 children live in extreme poverty, and 1 in 10 people live on less than $1.90 a day. The conditions they live in are horrible and everyone should do what they can to help end poverty and world hunger.
According to dosomething.org, one in five American children face hunger. In theory, this means that in my class of 20 kids, roughly four of them face hunger. In the United States there are many children and adults that go hungry, due to financial problems. With the economy and how high cost of living is, it’s hard to provide, food for the family. The results of hunger on children in America are not having the right nutrition, can have serious implication for a child’s physical and mental health. This shows that countless houses in the U.S don’t have the basic essentials to feed a child. Feeding America is a nonprofit organization that works together with food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other community based organizations. It’s a nationwide system of more than one hundred of food banks that feeds millions of people and organization president is Matt Knott. The mission of Feeding America is to “feed American’s hunger through nationwide network of member food banks and engage in the country in fight to end hunger” . The organization employs hundreds of people in the main national office in Chicago, Washington DC office and across the country to serve the needs of the people and expand the system of food banks.
Steps need to be taken to make a difference in the longer term and even within the current systems. Lunch ladies risked their jobs to bring attention to the nutritional needs of hungry children. They were change agents, whether they wanted to be or not. Their advocacy of their students spawned the school districts to reexamine the scope of the problems, their policies and policy making. Hunger and poverty have been staggering issues for many years without solid resolutions.
