Many have debated that to become a foster parent, a stricter investigation should be held. Also, the foster care system cant help kids if it's extremely untrustworthy and can cause damage to foster kids if they are not put in the right home or not being treated correctly.
The article, Foster Parents: Who Are They and What Are Their Motivations?, “National Center for Youth Law” talks about how children in foster care usually end up falling behind in school. They don’t excel or even have to desire to do well when it comes to their schoolwork. In this article, the author is trying to explain that there needs to be a more thorough screening process for foster parents so that children can be placed in safe and caring homes. Without proper screening

They don’t excel or even have to desire to when it comes to their schoolwork. In this text, the author is trying to express how children in the foster system are being failed when it comes to schooling. Foster children often lack a stable home environment, which can make it difficult for them to focus on their studies. Frequent moves, changes in schools, and disruptions to their routine can harm their academic performance.“ When youth enter foster care, they are more likely to be “old” for their grade level (i.e., have been held back one or more years) and to perform more poorly on standardized assessments than other students their age.” ( American SPCC. ). Foster children often attend the poorest schools. Research shows that young people in foster care face a range of challenges that can affect their educational outcomes, including home instability, frequent moves, and trauma. These challenges can make it difficult to form strong relationships with teachers and classmates, participate in school, and progress academically. Most young people in foster care want to go to college, but they are less likely than their peers to do so. They are also less likely to graduate from high school than their peers. They are also less likely to earn a college degree compared to kids that have not been to …show more content…
They might even add that in the article, Why Foster Care Makes a Positive Impact for Older Teens, In “In KVC Kansas”, the author talks about foster care can provide a stable and consistent home for children who may have experienced chaos and instability in their biological homes. “Foster care provides a safe place that allows youth and their birth family an opportunity to resolve conflicts and learn healthy skills so the youth can safely return home.” (KVC Kansas). Then they could follow up by saying how Foster parents can provide emotional support and guidance to the children in their care, helping them develop healthy relationships and help them cope with life's challenges. It provides children with the opportunity to form new relationships with one adult, helping them build a sense of belonging and increase their chances of success in life. It may lead to other permanent placement options that provide long-term homes. What I would say to all of this is that although all of these things are true it is now very rare. There are worse than good foster homes and just because a kid now has a place to live doesn't mean it would be a good environment for them. There is the way too many kids getting abused, neglected, and used. These ways need to change for all kids, not just some. It's not fair to children to be
Through previous studies conducted, the findings “reflect both insufficiencies in the foster care system and in insufficiencies in parenting and education youth bring into foster care (Scannapieco et al., 2007, pg 425).” As a result of children being placed in care most of their childhood, the findings of the empirical research must be viewed with caution. Such findings included that teens in fact have “significant difficulties transitioning into independent living and self sufficiency (Scannapieco et al., 2007, pg 425).” When it comes to education, compared to that of their peers, youth in foster care are drastically behind. A small percentage of youth exit foster care having just graduated from high school.
Protecting the child and provide an opportunity in which they will live a close to normal life is the goal. But with so many children in foster care and so little workers, children can be over looked. How can a child live in foster care their whole life? “It has been long stated and strongly held belief that foster care must not be a way of life for children, but rather that it is intended as a short-term treatment measure which, for the children’s welfare, must eventuate in their return to their parents or in legal adoption” (Kline,1972,p.51). Children eventually need to be put into long term, permanent homes.
Foster care is one of the oldest social systems, its official implementation dating back to 1909, when the federal government officially suggested that foster homes were the best way to care for children, as opposed to the former system of orphanages and orphan trains. Foster care began as a voluntary way for parents to ensure their children could live a better life, but has since become a largely involuntary way to remove a child from a potentially dangerous situation (Rosenfield et al., 1997). Social workers predate this system, first appearing within the first Charity Organization as “friendly visitors” in 1877 (Segal, 2020). Social workers and foster care have long been intertwined, but social policy dictates much of what the foster care
Foster Youth books often expand on the complexity of psychosocial transformations and trials and tribulations children face in the process of being placed in foster care system, but authors do not incorporate testimonials from the youth. An example of such book is called To the End of June, in which the Cris Bream sheds light on the foster care policies and the meaning of family without expanding on the life history of foster children. In order to be able to understand one of the most vulnerable members within society, foster youth, it is important to have contextual evidence, such as personal testimonies from the youth. Yes, it is significant to understand the statistics and policies that play a role in the foster youth community, but it is vital for stories to be shared in order to humanize the group.
Although the system is intended to assist children in need, numerous people contend that it is far from being a flawless solution. To better support the needs of vulnerable children, it is important to comprehend the potential risks and drawbacks linked with the foster care system and strive to develop solutions. The system of foster care has become corrupt and does
The low expectations placed on foster kids leads to lower graduation rates for those aging out of custody because most foster children do not have a supportive adult to keep them in line when they get tired of school. The lack of stability already puts foster kids at a disadvantage and leaves gaps in learning and development that are omnipresent in their lives. The instability that marked Pelzer’s teenage years made it difficult for him to continuously readjust, and he felt that every time he adjusted to a new environment, “something happened” (Pelzer
Even though the foster care system provides children with support for their physical needs, it fails to provide adequate support for their mental and emotional needs. The foster care system was designed to help children have a chance at a better life. It was created to help abused, neglected, or orphaned child in a temporary
Doyle (2010) stated, ? Those placed in foster care are far more likely than other children to commit crimes, drop out of school, join welfare, experience substance abuse problems, or enter the homeless population (para. 3). These statistics show that foster children become at risk for more trouble later in life, just because of everything that they have faced at such a young age. While this may not be the case for every child, facts like these are what cause doubts about the foster care system. Another article stated that, as opposed
Many children that go into the system usually do not have an education by the time that they were supposed to graduate. A lot of the children drop out. This is because many of them get into trouble, drugs and many of the girls get pregnant at a very young age. H. Robed Ayasse (1995) mentioned in his article that “These problems and the transience of their home like in the foster care system can have a powerful
Common misconceptions associated with being in foster care portray youth in the system as orphans. Youth in foster care are supposedly delinquents, and will perform poorly in academics compared to their peers who are not placed in these institutions. In society, these stereotypes are often pretended, but very little people understand the circumstances and factors the youth in the foster care system are facing. Youth in care are often juxtaposed to their community counterparts, to signify the impact of being a ward of the state, rather than being with a family member.
Many of the placements are done to carry out the systems policies and other placements are done if foster parents don’t meet the child needs. Children are less likely to be moved many times if a foster family is prepared to meet the child 's challenging needs. The foster care system is also in need of more social workers that will ensure that the child is placed in a good family so that they are not moved several times. Plenty of placements are also done if the child is initially placed in short-term care but needs to be moved to long term. However, the more changes a child experiences decreases the chance of them returning home or being adopted.

The importance of Medicaid, access to healthcare, mental health services, and many more. The article goes into detail about health exams for foster kids and improving child welfare. Enhancing the Foster Care System The foster care system plays a crucial role in providing temporary or permanent care for children who are unable to live with their biological families due to various reasons. However, the current state of the foster care system reveals significant gaps and challenges, and there needs to be an approach to improve the well-being and future of children in foster care. The foster care system can be enhanced by training foster care providers, increasing the stability of care, and addressing the unique needs of a child.
Children in foster care often have a high risk of having developmental problems. Seeing that most children in foster care were, taken away from unfit parents a lot of these children have faced some, type of maltreatment. "Proponents of foster care note that 70– 80% of children in out of home placements have been maltreated in the home of origin..."(Lawrence 58). Because, maltreatment is common before placement, poor development outcomes are a risk. Consequently, foster children are at risk of falling behind in development, and up to 80% of foster children have a developmental problem.(Hodges 2156).
